Hi,

So we finally bought a big boy bed it arrives this week, DS is excited about anything with the words big boy in front of it, so I am hopeful, but he is also moving rooms. We only have two rooms upstairs ours and his and we need his for the babies room.

So over the next couple of weeks ish we will start decorating his new room with stuff he likes

questions - tips on moving to the big bed required

do you give them a full size pillow, if so does it matter if its really big - can you buy flattish pillows?

Where can we get cool bedding from, anything spacey would be a big hit.

any other tips on moving a toddler really.

You can get flat pillows you just have to look around, we got a flat one from kmart. I wouldn't use a big one though.

Could you have his cot in the new room for a little while? When we moved Jody I had her big girl bed in a different place in her room to where her cot was and she freaked out a bit, but when I put it in the same place she seemed to understand and went to sleep ok.
We just use a pillow case with Elmo on it, so she knows where to put her head

Catriona has a full size pillow now - it is quite a flat one (i definitely wouldn't use a feather one for her). The cot one i had was just far too small.

I have a flat pillow for Arianne, I just slowly added things to her cot so when her big bed goes up, its all familiar.

She has the side off her cot now and hasn't fallen out yet, they have been off for 3 months now.

For space themed bedding I have a K-Mart cut out on my fridge and they have a very cute space monster bedding set reasonably priced (SB sheet set $20, lamp shade $20, floor mat $16).  You can also buy the same flipout sofa for them at $35   I'm not sure if the prices are the same today tho.

Ooh I was going to say kmart too. I got cool sheets from there - one set with stars and one with cute space monsters, and duvet has rockets and space monsters etc from memory. Can't remember how much they were but pretty cheap, and like Jacobsmumma said there are matching accessories if you wnt them

My son has a pillow - it's so flat there's practically nothing to it lol. He had it in his cot first so it was a familiar thing in the bed.

We have just moved into the bed (like a week ago). First few nights he was taking an hour to go to sleep and dh was lying on the bed next to him in the end to get him to lie down I was really worried that we'd done the wrong thing taking th cot away. But he's come right and the last 3 nights and day naps he's stayed in his bed and gone straight to sleep Hopefully it lasts!

Good luck!

Oh just to add - the sheets etc from kmart feel quite good too - don't feel cheap and nasty like some cheap bedding does

I have been to kmart - all good perfect in fact.

So bed and room set up and we are just talking about it heaps, he loves all the space stickers in there and is spending heaps of time in his room, not ready for him to move yet, need to put a blind up but fingers crossed, he is such a good sleeper i really hope it continues.

Good luck with the move!!

We moved DD a few weeks back and had no problems. She has always been a good sleeper, and we had taken the side off her cot a few months earlier. She was so excited to be in her big bed it was never an issue. She doesn't have a pillow and I don't plan to get her one for a while - she just doesn't need it. I have seen kids pillows at Spotlight though which are low profile.
