Okay, so not to my surprise I am overdue again.
So I just thought I may aswell start a thread for us all to moan in together (LOL!) and discuss our options and share methods for natural induction.
I'm thinking this time round of leaving making a date for induction till atleast 42+2 or so. Anyone had experence here / what are your views?
I think bubs is just too darn comfy in here!!

How far over were you with Madison?
I feel your pain. I was 15 days over when Dan finally arrived. This time I'm doing 5W, EPO, sex when I can be bothered, regular massage and acupressure. And chilling out about it cos I know they're easier in than out!
I'm with you on the 42+2 thing. I was induced at 41+5, Dan arrived at 42+1 and I had a big intervention cascade. This time I'm happy to give bubs a pretty reasonable chance of coming on its own and reduce the risk of complications from intervention. I'll go to at least 42 weeks and probably beyond that if all is well.
Remind me of my plans in 18 days

For some odd reason my midwife said they dont let mothers carry for more than ten days past due date... is this the truth? I ended up having a really BAD birth and almost lost the two of us... I don't think this would have occured if I had waited a little longer! Being induced isn't fun! 42+2 sounds like a good time :)

I was induced with both my kids at 41+4. After being induced with DS, I really pushed to go a bit longer the second time around. I planned with my MW that I would have a monitor on at a week over to check up on the baby and then a scan at 10 days to really check. I felt this was a the responsible way to go over - once I had these two things confirmed, then I was happy to wait...
At my scan at 41+3 with my daughter they discovered that my waters were quite low and so I was induced the next day.
But I am one of the few that inducement agreed with, I don't know any other way and really enjoyed knnowing that my baby would be here soon and that I was already in hospital! (We live an hour from hospital!)

manda they say that but really if the baby is ok they cant force you. None of my babies came before 42 weeks and were all forcibly evicted after that date too. I think toby was my longest at 42 + 3. eden - my last - i tried to hold out but being in the vulnerable state of pregnant and overdue it was really hard to not be forced into induction. I should have stuck to my guns on that one cause eden was born by emergency c section in the end after too much intervention.
funnily enough i took EPO most of my pregnancy with gabriel and it didnt help, sex didnt either - it was just very uncomfortable and almost funny!
i have a farmer friend who says that with cows it is the male that determines if it will be overdue or not, so i blame my husband entirely!

I really do not want to go overdue, so have been doing a bit of research. Found these websites:
http://hubpages.com/hub/Ways-to-induce-Labour-Naturally - induction 1
http://www.lifepassages.net/NaturalInduction.html - induction 2
http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/natinduc.html - induction 3
My plan is to start EPO at 35 weeks (3 up), and at 36 weeks change that to 2 up, 2 down.
I will be taking 5W from 35 weeks
I take long walks every day.
at 37 weeks I am going to start eating traditional labour inducing food, and start acupressure, and nipple stimulation, at 38 weeks have a s&s.
If I get to 40 weeks, i might try caster oil or cumin tea.
I might attempt sex, but to be honest, it just aint been happening much lately. I have such a giant belly, and feel rather unsexy that it is just a bit awkward and funny. I have heard that oral sex works better anyway, as your body absorbs the prostaglandins better that way. Haven't told DH that yet, as he will probably be extra willing to help out as many times as is necessary!!
I do know the baby will come in its own time etc BUT I would like a VBAC, and if I go more than one week over I will need a c-section again, which is the only reason I am going to such lengths.

Interesting. And it's bollocks. In my local hospital (Waitakere), they won't induce you *before* you're 13 days over! Main reasons are that most women will deliver before then and it reduces the rates of intervention that flow from a "failed induction". Your birth sounds similar to mine. There is a very slight increased risk of stillbirth as you go over 42 weeks - emphasis on SLIGHT and I don't know the research well. It's why I would want to be monitored so any problems (e.g. placental deterioration, low amniotic fluid) can be picked up on. My MW is happy for me to go past 42 weeks IF everything is going well and that's what I'll do if I need to.
Like Deb, I think I probably just brew longer - my mother and sisters do, so ...... (Though it's interesting about it being the man's fault - I keep trying to tell my DH that it's all his fault!)

I was crazy late like three weeks when I was born lol....so anticipated that my babies would be late and sure enough DS was 9 days overdue..went into spontaneous labour tho. Tried a few tricks in the book but honestly, I reckon they just come when they are ready.
Sucked waiting for this little boy as I had to go stay in this town where the best place to stay was a cabin in a camp ground....and I had to go there 2 weeks before but have to admit that we only went the week before I was due. The temperatures over here were horrendous so wasn't even like we could sit outside with a beer (kidding about the beer bit) and the best thing to do everyday was go to the nearest shopping centre where the only place worth looking in was Big W. haha....am sure the check out people must have recognised me by sight....Oh yeah did I mention that this was over the Xmas/New Years period...I was feeling pretty sorry for myself before we even went, and had a few cries when at Xmas time we drove past people having a nice christmas and we didn't have anything nice...think we had baked beans on toast or something lol (there was not really a kitchen, just a microwave and toaster).
Man, I feel sorry for anyone going overdue...it sucks haha!

Manda23, thats complete crap LOL! I hate that some hospitals have ridiculous protocols like this. And worse that they are often followed..Provided theres no medical need to induce I don't believe they should be so pushy especially in our hormone enraged but vulnerable states!! Flissty pretty well summed it up though. Most MW's are happy for us to go postdates, with regular checkups.
And on that front I had MW appt just before, and I'll be having my next appt (Fri) at the birthing unit so we can have a quick listen to what bubi is upto in there. As for the natural indutions methods and stuff, I've just started on EPO, 3 a day, one internally. I sit on the fence here, There's no great evidence to suggest there effectivity but hey, why not give it a go!
Bizzy, Hmm I wonder about that in people. My Mum and older sis have had inductions with there 5 kiddies, and I had an induction with my first..So thats 6 inductions due to postdates..Possibly a female thing..? But I'm happy to blame it on DF LOL!
With Madison I was 41+6 and Induced. Luckily it was a relativey swift labour considering a bishop score of a big fat 0. (7hrs all up)
Hila, OMG don't tell your DH that!! Or any men in general

Thanks for the info Flissty and Madiandme- I knew there was something strange going on there! I would never recommend my midwife to anyone for that and other reasons. DD was quite happy in there and showed no signs of needing to come out then! I will remember that for next time!

Manda I was told 10 - 14 days over due and then mw would reassess and if need be I would be induced otherwise I wouldn't be induced until 42 weeks.

I tried EPO and 5W - apart from straight forward inductions they didn't help me go into labour!

I was induced at 41w as my waters were leaking. 1st try with the tape broke my waters and then the next day they used the drip and that worked. I was really lucky, very straightforward, quick labour.
The previous week I had taken the homeopathic induction pills 3 times(did nothing), had accupressure (had contractions but that's about all), danced vigorously around the house to very loud 80s/90s music (hehe), tried all the old wives tales (except castor oil and curry!). I did take 5W from 35 weeks and was a regular drinker of raspberry leaf tea and I do believe these helped my body prepare for birth and recovery. I think the baby will come when it;'s ready (unfortunately for those of us having to wait!) and if my waters hadn't have been leaking I probably would have ended up waiting at least another week. I was told that inductions when overdue at our hospital had to be approved by the specialist on duty.

I think your age makes a difference to how far over they let you go? DS was 40+6, but when he was 40+4, I got phoned by the assessment unit to make an appointment for his induction! I was horrified -- I wasn't even 41 weeks, and induction would have meant that I had to give birth in the hospital (I really wanted the more relaxing birthing unit).
I'm in my mid-thirties, and a friend who was 41 for her first got told that if you are over 40yrs for your first, then risks increase for overdue babies, so they induce earlier for older mothers.
(BTW -- I then did EVERYTHING the next day -- big walk up a hill, hot curry, sex and labour started that night!)

So I'm still here LOL no surprises though.
Had S&S yesterday, and was on CTG for 30mins and baby is doing great. "Very reassuring" was how the MW put it.
Going to decide on a date for induction Monday if I get there..
Really was hoping for a homebirth, or even a water birth at the birthing unit so I'm feeling a bit bummed at the moment

My understanding of those things was that they are meant to help you in labour, not go into labour.

madiandme when i was induced with my second i laboured in the pool at the hospital after my waters broke, was in there for ages.... so being induced doesnt mean you want get to have some of what you want.. If they give you the syntocin (sp) drip thats when you have to be pretty much bed ridden. thats what i would try and avoid.

I was born 3 weeks late too Nutella, so was also expecting the same but DD surprised us all and was 3.5weeks early lol. I was induced though (just with the gel) as water broke and contractions hadn't started by themselves. Once labour was established (6hrs after gel administered) it was a straighforward 3.5hr labour so it does work for some, although my body must have been ready seeing as water had already broken on it's own.
My OB had also told me I would be induced after 10days overdue, but obviously didn't come to that...
For this pregnancy I have a midwife who is very into doing things the natural way. We haven't talked about going overdue yet obviously but I am pretty sure she won't be pushing for an early induction at all.

Yeap, I'm aware of that lol same situation I was in with Madison's birth. I guess I am just holding on to the idea of a homebirth, or waterbirth. I'd love either. Our hosp has labour baths so you can't birth in them and the hosp is an our away from home and thats just a right pain!!
That said had a show this morn and again just before, so FX it'll go somewhere in the next two days..
And some irritating back pain ATM...

Madiandme - nobody can *make* you have an induction, even past 42 weeks it is still your right to say no if your baby is healthy and you are comfortable with it. Being "overdue" certainly shouldn't prevent you from a homebirth either - I can dig up some info on post dates if you are at all interested.

Chicky - Base hosp has a birthing pool They replaced one of the labour spas for a birth pool not so long ago. Must be a pain having to travel an hour tho. My friend was in the same position few months ago.
Good luck and I hope baby comes soon for you.

This is true, my friend had a horrible experience being induced with her first, so her second she went way over, but baby was healthy and she was comfy (and enjoying the time while her DD was at kindy and she was kid free for a bit during the day haha ) and they booked her in for an induction but she rang the day before and said she wasn't coming, they just said "ok" .
3 days later labour started normally and baby was born healthy and happy 6 hours later

*sprinkling labour dust*...All of my kids have gone overdue...10 days each time but I was induced with that gel stuff with the 2 older ones...with my DS my mw recommended other methods to bring bubs on naturally so I took some of that herbal stuff (can't remember what it's called now) and had acupuncture every 3 days. I also had to use the maternity rocker to make sure bubs was well positioned...it all paid off when I lost my plug (on the 10th day..hehe) and went into labour....my nephews wife is having her baby as we speak (c-section) as she is now 17 days overdue...all the best with bubs:)
