Hi ladies
Have you used a pregnancy pillow at all? I'm looking for a recommendation; I'm 23 weeks now and am waking up with really achy legs and bum like I've just done a big lower body workout at the gym! I think it has something to do with the weight of lying on one side and then the other all night long.
What have you used and what did you think?
TIA!

Hey Ceres, I think Frankie started a post on this a few weeks back?? Try sleeping with a normal pillow tucked between your knees/thighs and see if that helps I had to start doing that around 20wks as I was getting aching hips. I didn't use it when I was admitted to hospital at 24wks and haven't needed anything since so that is good - it is a mission enough just to roll over these days, without re-positioning pillows aswell!!

Ceres, different things work for different people I've heard/read. I initially bought a full length pillow from Spotight but that was no good for me, but others have sworn by it. Pillow between the legs does nothing for me either, just makes my inner thighs sore instead. A few weeks ago I sucked it up and bought a dreamgenii pillow ($80!) and its okay, some nights I use it and others its cumbersome and annoying. Other people have suggested tri pillows which would probably be as effective as the dreamgenii.
Like Kelly, my need for pillows diminished as time went on, and came back about 32 - 33 weeks (hence getting the dream genii) so maybe try some normal pillows first and see how you get on.
Sorry not much recommendation there from me! actually I remember at your stage sleeping with a pillow under my legs (as opposed to in between them) and that worked quite well for a few nights.

I prop regular pillows all around me so i'm propped into the postion i chose on all sides (back, stomach, legs etc). Need a lot of pillows, but the major downside is rearranging everything if i, god forbid, need to roll over, get up and pee, get up and drink, get up and pee again, roll over, get up and get heartburn tabs etc etc

Haha, yip Bowie, know the feeling tee hee.
I had a variety of pillows, a tri pillow, rested my head on one edge and the other edge under me, also european pillows were good for the large area, plus the pillow between the legs and i had this wedge thing that was great and towards the end i used to put a pillow behind my back and the little wedge one under my tummy on my side....needed to have my back propped because otherwise got sore from not rolling over but almost...if that makes sense.
I wondered about a full length one but don't get how it works with the big tummy????

I hear those wedge things you can get for baby, st.....something wedges. Um someone else know what i mean? Its a big wedge (duh) that you can use to sleep baby with, or apparently its good for tummy time too.
Anyway, those wedge things are apparently awesome to prop pregos in place too.

Hmmm perhaps I shouls stop reading this section. You just reminded me why I want to wait a bit longer to get utd again, lol.
I used a body pillow. It was great, until I needed to roll over. I had one arm and one leg thrown over the top of it so it was almost like I was sleeping on my tummy. Towards the end of my pregnancy, DH was sleeping in the spare bed as I was too restless and hot (during summer - won't do that again!) so was easier to manouver it. The wedge was ok earlier on, but towards the end didn't do much at all. HTH

I had a full body pillow, but didn't actually use it, just had pillows instead and it is a pain to store anywhere cos it is so big!

My friend gave me a long body pillow when I was about 28 weeks and it has been a total lifesaver. It stops your bump pulling you down and it supports your body weight. I don't sleep without it now and when I get up my hubby pinches it cos he loves it too!
It's easier than lots of pillows as you can just roll over it and use it on either side or kind of drape yourself over and it feels like you are on your tummy.

I use a snuggle buddy www.snugglebuddies.co.nz and it's a lifesaver as it moulds to your body. Also, I can't just sleep on my left side so it's easy to move around as it's light and soft. Made a huge difference and I no longer wake up sore...

Thanks everyone for your input. If anything my ability to sleep appears to have reduced even further over the previous couple of nights so I will definitely be looking into your suggestions. Hehe, and I'm reallllllyyy looking forward to the 'need for pillows diminishing with time'. Sleeping for more than 30 minutes at a time can't come soon enough!

I definitely recommend sleeping with a pillow between your knees/thighs, this worked so well for me, and I had a huge compac belly(big baby!)
I did get a preggy pillow but I hated it! So I did the tri pillow between the knees, and then put two normal pillows behind my back(i slept on my right side) and this made sleeping sooooooo much better!
The reason why the pillow between the knees works so well is because it levels your hips out, without it your leg kinda drags your hip and belly down, if you get what i mean, so the pillow keeps you all even and in line!

I went out and got a dreamgenii at lunch time and have just woken from a very blissful, painfree, 2 hour uninterrupted sleep. I feel like a different person! Hopefully it continues to make a difference. I suspect you're right Sheza, the support between my legs made a big difference I think!

Hehe I just squished my baby and slept half curled over towards my tummy. Every now and then I sometimes put a pillow (folded in half cause they were pinny flat ones) under my curled over leg.
She grew fine, was a nice big bubby so the squishing never hurt her. (9lb10)

I'm 29 weeks and have been struggling with a sore back when i lie on my side, for about 5 weeks now. I have 2 of those pillows with the little tiny beans inside that you often see for sale in the stalls in the middle of the mall aisles.... Put one behind my lower back and one under my bump. They completely mould around you and arent too firm/soft... plus they dont take up too much space in bed. Seems to work well on my sore back!

I'm getting really sore hips and lower back but the pillow between the thighs and knees does seem to help. I just try and roll over taking the pillow with me, annoying to DH I think but hey, who is in the most discomfort!
