Hi all,
This may be a silly question, but this is the first time I've been pregnant and I'm only 6 1/2 weeks so still trying to keep it a secret.
for the past 2 weeks I've been feeling really queasy and tired. I thought that might be the worst of it but now for the passed 5 days straight I have vomited every day (just once a day - but it takes a lot out of me)
I brought sea bands - but they are not working that well.
Is this just par for the course, or should I talk to my MW or Dr?
I just don't want to be over reacting if this is just what most pregnant women go through.
Any help with this would be lovely,
Cheers

I think some women develop hypermeiesis (spell?) which is morning sickness which is really bad and in some cases make you dehydrated because you can't keep anything down.
I would definitely talk to your midwife to see if yours is severe or just "normal".

This preg I was sick at least twice early morning from about 8wks till 13 then once a day from 13 wks till last week. This time I just went with it and didn't fight it, just got it over and one with, once I had done it I sipped a glass of iced water and ate a plain biscuit, just so that I would have something in my stomach. I also used sea bands, and nausyn drops.
Last preg I was worse but only because I was fighting it and eating all the wrong foods in the early morning and not drinking enough water.
The things that helped me were eating what you want when you want. I found eating lemonade popsicles really helped in the early days. Iced water is great, sipping through a straw may make it easier to swallow. Sucking on mints or spearmints. Keeping busy. Eating carbs, staying away from sweet foods. And sleeping whenever possible. Also you could try rescue remedy to keep you calm.
If it gets to the stage where you can't keep anything down at all for more then a few days then it would be time to get help. But also just mention it to your mw and she may be able to suggest something else.

i think if its really affecting your life so you cant function properly its bad,, i had it really bad, had a couple weeks off work cause i jsut couldnt keep anything down and couldnt get out of bed, i needed nausea medication so that i could eat again. i was still queasy but could eat, eventually the medication sort of stopped working but by then i was past the worst weeks..
mine then dropped to just a morning vomit and queasyness for the rest of the day at about 12 weeks, and now (finally!) i just gag in the mornings and evenings and dont actually throw up which is great,
it definately helps to eat the right foods, but only you will be abe to know what works for you unfortunately.. for me it was having a yoghurt every morning first thing, cereal was a no go it had to be protien.. just give things a try, and yeah dont try fight the nausea cause you wont win lol.. eat as often as you can as having an empty stomach will make you feel worse, eat every hour if you can.

It depends if you wanna live with it. I know I get vomitting until minimum 16w so this time I wasn't putting up with it and went and tried accupuncture. It was a god send for me. The sooner you go the better it works for accpuncture. I wanted to go down the natural route and I don't find maxolon (which is the typical drug prescribed) helps. It stops vomitting but I sit around and feel very nausesous which is just as bad as throwing up.

Like kebakat said it depends if you want to live with it. If you find its too much for you then you can get tablets from your GP ( should be a free visit since its before 14 weeks). Other things that can help is ginger ale, flat lemonade, just sipping water. Other people say dry toast, plain biscuites are good but I found they just came back up until I got tablets.
I was fine till about 7 weeks then couldnt keep any food down so got some antinausea tablets prescribed by GP which generally worked well.

I had severe morning sickness early on, pretty much couldn't hold any food down from 4 weeks to 10 weeks. It then diminished to once or twice a day, with lunch being my safest meal. I still get morning sickness though it has now changed to evening sickness and I am expecting it to last for the entire pregnancy, since this tends to be what happens in my family.
I personally didn't want to take medication and the main concern from a medical standpoint seemed to be dehydration, so try to keep water intake up. If you are concerned about your liquid intake then I would be going straight to your mw or doctor.
Things I have found helpful are:
slices of fresh ginger &/or mint in my water (hot & cold)
wine biscuits and crackers
smoothies/shakes
eating very small amounts throughout the day
listen to your body, it will generally tell you it isn't keen on something

Hiya. I had hypermesis in my first pregnancy and have just been diagonised with it in this second pregnancy. I was sick for 26 weeks first time round, fingers crossed it gets better early this time.
Like others have said, dehydration is the biggest concern. Be aware that fluid intake can come in many forms. Water, of course, juice, jelly, yoghurt, ice cream. If the vomitting becomes regular and everytime you drink something then get some assistance. My GP has put me on a course of Maxolon but this doesn't work for me. Side affects are too much to cope with. I am now on Zofran Wafers. They dissolve on your tongue and you don't need water. In the very least the GP can give you IV fluids.
Rest whenever you can. I find if I get too tired my hypermesis is worse the next day. If you have sick days accrued at work, don't be afraid to take them. Your body is doing alot of work at the moment and even though you aren't telling anyone you need the rest.
Best of luck with the pregnancy!

Its only early days for you yet, FX it doesnt get any worse.
(TMI)I had really bad morning sickness, one day i actually vomited over 20 times Yes i was counting. But i just became so use to it, i just expected it everyday. Mine was normally gone by 2pm.
No matter what i tried nothing worked for me. I was given pills, they didnt help at all. Sorry cant remember the name of them.
I slept alot, this seemed to help me during the day. I would sleep from 7pm-6am everyday for months. I just really needed the sleep.
I also had to tell my boss at work, because i was always rushing off to the toilet. Luckily they were very good about it.
To answer your question, Yes it is very normal to feel like this, hopefully you wont be like it for too long.
Definitely talk to your midwife though, they are there to answer your questions and help you

I think what you are describing is normal morning sicknesss that they possibly wouldnt consider treating but talk to your midwife.
Try acupuncture....... it will be your best friend if you do it. I did not have severe vomiting but constant nausea. The acupuncture takes it away instantly and I have heard that most people find it successful. It is pricey ($50 or so) but soooo worth it.
Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy.

I had quite bad MS too and vomitted everyday. When it came to the point where I could not even keep any fluids down, had lost about 7 or 8 kilos and had no energy at all (ie had to have a lie down after having a shower) I went into hospital where I stayed for 5 days and was administered several litres of IV fluids to rehydrate me again.
You can see your GP and have anti nausea tablets prescribed. The seabands did nothing for me either.

Do a search on here of hyperemesis....bleurgh...! you'll read about a whole bunch of others' experiences.
It can, unfortunately, be a lot worse than 1 vomit per day. MS generally peaks at 8-9 weeks gestation. It's horrid!!!!!
The good thing is that the sickness does go! in my case...my last vomit was the day i gave birth (yes...the whole 9 months!!). I did it all...pills, sea band, accupuncture...best treatment for me was Zofran, iv fluids, and lots of time off work till 15 weeks. I'm still relishing not being preggers...but the pay off was sooooo worth it, and i WILL do it again!
