No 1 child is almost 2 and I am expecting no 2 in January.  I would like to buy a picture book I can read to my toddler to prepare him for the new arrival.  I would appreciate recommendations of books suitable to read to a two year old and where I can buy them from, thanks!

"There is a house inside my mummy" http://www.fishpond.co.nz/Books/Childrens/Fiction/General/9781841210681/

- i have just read it with my 2 year old for our new one coming this month. and i think it has really helped - it is beautifully illustrated. I got it out from our local library.

Our midwife has a pack she lends out to her pregnant couples. It has a dozen or so books, the best ones (for younger kids) I have been showing our almost-three year old are:

http://www.amazon.com/Theres-House-Inside-Orchard-Picturebooks/dp/1841210684/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1284458527&sr=1-1 - There's a house inside my mummy

http://www.amazon.com/Ever-So-Kes-Gray/dp/0340873337/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1284458627&sr=1-3 - Ever so, ever so

http://www.amazon.com/Hi-New-Baby-Robie-Harris/dp/0756965640/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1284458668&sr=1-1 - Hi New Baby!

http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Board-Kes-Gray/dp/B00171755E/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1284458717&sr=1-2 - Baby on board

And our favourite is:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hello-Baby-Jenni-Overend/dp/1845070232 - Hello Baby

(we are planning our second homebirth, and this is a really sweet, gentle homebirth-based book. All the other books I have read are very much 'Mum and Dad go to hospital and then the baby comes home!' - this one is very subtle but gives more insight into the labour aspect.)

Hope all the links work

We have There's A House Inside My Mummy and it's great. It's a wee bit long for my DS (21 months) so I tend to abridge it a little bit unless I read it at bedtime when he is much calmer and will listen to a longer story! I bought our copy in a local bookstore in Sydney, but the Amazon price looks pretty good. I'd also try Book Depository, their prices are usually v competitive and they have free worldwide delivery.

We also have a book about being a big brother. It's a shorter, smaller book and a good length for C. It talks about what babies do and what big brothers can do. It's in C's room at the mo so I can't check the title/author. MIL sent it over from Oz, it's good EXCEPT it talks about Daddy giving the baby a bottle (rather than mummy BF) which annoys me for some reason. I just change the words and say the baby is having milk without referring to the bottle.

We've had There's a house inside my Mummy too and it is good... Also a really really simple book that DD loved was ZaZa's baby brother by Lucy Cousins (the Maisy lady).. Its so simple that she can almost 'read' it herself now...

Thanks everyone for your replies, I went to Whitcoulls today to see if they had Theres a House Inside my Mummy in stock (since so many of you recommended it), it wasn't in stock but hopefully my local library will have a copy I can have a look at.
