Sorry, can't help you with an answer because I have the same trouble. DS who is 16 months would have three bananas everyday if we let him. I try to limit it to two a day but I would like to know if it's necessary.
He also eats a lot of other fruit, as in he will demolish three kiwifruit in a go and three mandarins.
We don't have any problems so far but just curious abotu what others think.

They are the only fruit my DS will eat and three a day is pretty normal for him. I really hope that someone doesn't post saying it is really bad to eat too many bananas I guess too many bananas could give her constipation but if she is otherwise eating a balanced that shouldn't be a problem

Hmmm I wondered about the constipation thing....she has the exact opposite problem usually and now we've been told she's guten intolerant....so perhaps bananas will be a good thing?!
Argh I hate it when babies change the rules on us lol

Beware when something is not good for us, ie individually not overall, we can crave that food.
My DD did the same with a type of wheat bix. I limited the amount (to 4) she has & now she's settled down to an amount (2-3) she eat comfortably a day. She kept going back for bowls initially. Like up to 8!!!
I certainly limit the amount she has. I'd do some research on the net to see if there is a limit that you should offer. But I'd say 2-3 a day, depending on what size they are. If they are the small bobby then 3 but if they are the bigger ones I'd say 2.

Ha! C is addicted to bananas. When he was little they made him constipated but is fine now.
I try to limit it to 2 a day just because I think he should eat a wider range of food and not fill up on one thing IYGWIM. But that boy will eat everything and anything so no problem really! and I'm lucky that he can. The only thing I have found he doesn't like is beans. The strange child even eats brussell sprouts! blerk

haha I do that! You have to do it when they aren't looking though they aren't silly. C gets half with breakfast, half AM tea, half for lunch and half for PM tea. Amongst other stuff

I thought too many bananas can also give tummy aches?
Taylah started wanting 2 a day but ive cut it down, i try let her have 1 every 2 days now because i didnt want her to get constipated.
If she seems fine with them, let her eat them. Just maybe giver her a day or too break from them each week

Oh DD is the same. She eats and eats and eats, well she eats and eats and eats anything but will have bananas quite often because they are easy to grab and would rather give her fruit then biscuits. She knows if you give her half of one though that doesn't work and eats them quicker then my 2.5yr old god kids do

Bananas and apples can cause either constipation or diahhorea, just depends on how each person responds to either. Hopefully the banana phase will be short-lived and you won't need to worry too much. I think you may need to put most of them out of sight (and I know with that age that's almost impossible because they watch so closely!). If she doesn't seem to have a sore gut or trouble poo from it, I wouldn't worry about it unless it lasts more than a few days.
How has she been diagnosed GI so young?

if it isn't a coincidence, then at least you have something to go on and some more control over moods etc.
Re bananas I've been buying those little ones. Thinks she has more than she actually does!

Yup, Jake weighed in at a whopping 8.5kg at his 15 month check up LOL and a very tall 74cm.. I think he has had a growth spurt both ways since then though because he feels heavier!

I wish H ate more bananas coz they are so easy! But no, he likes to play with the skin instead. I am not sure what I am feeding him, but at 15 months he was 13.3 kgs and 86cms

DS was about that size/weight at 15 months, think is has slowed down a bit for us.
They do go through phases, so its probably just that, I guess eating hundreds of bananas a day would be bad , but if she is eating lots of other stuff as well then its probably a growth spurt.
Who mentioned oranges, DS is suddenly obsessed with them, gave him a big orange he rammed it down in seconds that and tomatoes, would eat a whole one like an apple but the following day the nappy rash was awful so no more oranges and tomatoes for him for a while.

Yep totally know what you mean!
You could test her, after the 10 days is up, give her some Harroways Scotch oats & see how she goes.
I'm suggesting that particular one because it's generally more tolerated out of all the oats. If she is fine with oats then she could be just intolerant of wheat maybe. Plus it's a cheap enough thing to buy to test. My super sensitive boy can eat these oat over any other brand. Dr Rodney Ford recommends Harroways as well.
In going wheat free myself & how much better I felt to days like today where I've eaten to much wheat for me, it is nicer to feel more comfy in your tummy & less wind!!!

A&C thanks for that...I will def keep this going for 10 days until we get a 2nd opinion adn then we see this naturopath again so should have some sort of clue about if it's really working or not! Funny you mention oats cos this guy made the comment 'oh dear she's also very intolerant of oats as well...which is unusual'. Grrrrrr. She LOVES her porridge...although having said that she also seems to really enjoy the millet porridge and has it twice a day...part of breakfast and dessert lol.

Yup Emmecat totally know what you mean! And yes, H is a very hard to carry around, especially now that he is sick and wants cuddles all the time.
I read somewhere that women particularly don't tolerate wheat as well... something to do with PMS and hormone regulation. And, have been reading this book called 'the gentle birth method' and they recommend no wheat for all of pregnancy and then no gluten in the last month. Interesting.

It would be good to see if you can get a GP to refer you to a dietician. I am GI and we recently thought one of our DD was GI also, because she was having similar symptoms. We took her off gluten and saw an immediate improvement but reintroduced it with no side effects. A dietician saw us and said we were giving her too much fibre; basically the only thing we need to do is limit her weetbix intake and she's alright.
ALL mainstream oats sold in NZ contain gluten and that was a dumb comment for the naturopath to make. Also generally containing gluten is marmite, milo, and cornflakes/rice bubbles. If he doesn't know that, he doesn't know gluten.
As for millet porridge..... LOL

Yep, that was the point I was trying to make by trying her on porridge, is that they are gluten, sorry missed it out <duh me> Harroways is more "clean" than other brands.

Busymum- yep I hope you'er right about it being too much fibre! Being on a vegetarian diet, she probably also gets more fibre than the average baby, although I try to be really careful about that. It's the nature of the beast though...
Well we'll see what this 2nd naturopath says. Dunno how a dietician could tell if she were GI unless bloods were done...and I've been told they're innacurate till 2?

Perhaps the banana cravings are because you have cut out other carbs in her diet and shes hungry?? Or needing some missing nutrients? I would agree with getting a referral to a dietician if you are going to start limiting the diet of a child so young too. Even if you want to follow what the naturpath says, it would be a good idea to check with a dietician that you are getting all necessary nutrients into her.
Back to the bananas tho -- I'd say as long as it doesn't give her any poo issues, it should be fine to eat a few a day. She'll be on to the next phase in a month and wanting to eat something else all the time. Jake has phases - some days he'll eat 4 or 5 pears!! the next week its apples.

haha my 10 month old yells "a-nana, a-nana" at the top of her voice until she gets more banana. The most she has had in one day is 2 big ones - at her age I usually limit her to one a day.
Good luck with the gluten thing. My girls both eat millet porridge for breakfast every day - they don't know any diffent and they gobble it down. They aren't gluten free, but I don't like to overdo gluten either.
