Am trying to work out the pros and cons of either..
DD is 2 - can't get her into Kindy until she 3.2 years and DS is 10mths old.
Have gone to Playcentre visits and the kids loved it. But have heard from other mums and friends that they prefer Kindy over Playcentre.
I'm not sure if its because they want to drop kids off so they have free time or if because they don't have to do duties etc.. I love playing with my kids and other children..
Am so confused though as to what would be the better option for my children..
Also in your face MIL said to enrol DD into Kindy as a backup as may not know what my situation would be next year.. I think she was hinting at me going back to work..
Love to hear your opinions...

lots of kindys arent full time yet so even if you are working it wont be a help. i enrolled my kids at two into kindy, doesnt hurt to be on the waiting list early. and nothing wrong with doing both, go to playcentre for now. lots of mums love it.

I have yet to decide this also.
I take DD to playcentre. From 2years + i am allowed to leave her there. But once i week i do need to stay & help out. When i have another baby i will also take that baby to playcentre so i dont see the point in dropping 1 child at kindy then taking one child to playcentre.
I guess for me i will decide when dd is at the age to start kindy, DD wont get into our kindy until 3 1/2 and its 8.15-1.15 so makes a long day.
It also depends on how well run the playcentre is at the time.
Playcentre & kindy are both similar expect one is run by parents, the other by teachers.

I loved being part of a playcentre when my older kids were little. There's so much for them to do/play with, heaps of people to chat with, and all the mess stays there! Really it just depends on what you like and are comfortable with. So I'd go with playcentre for now and see how you settle. If you and the kids like it, stay! If not, look around for something else

why not do both? jack goes to kindy 3 mornings a week, he started just before he was 3yrs. i like that i can drop him off, i think the time apart is good for us both and will get him a bit used to me not being there in preparation for school. it provides structure with mat times, morning tea, free play etc. it covers more formal education with doimg letters, numbers, shapes and colours. our local is a private kindy so not sure if it differs to state or community kindy
jack, ben and i all go to pc one morning a week. i love that ben can get involved at a young age. they get to try more messy play at pc than kindy. jack gets to have free play i see his imagination develop. plus i get to spend time with other adults and get some education with the course work
my opinion would be to stick with pc but also enrol your daughter in kindy and then when they say there is a place for then make the decision as to whether she goes

Completely agree with Linzy.
Enrol in kindy just in case and keep going to playcentre if you enjoy it and make a decision when the time comes. You could always keep doing both (lots of the 3-4yr olds at my playcentre do kindy too). My kids do 3 days in daycare and we do one morning at playcentre. We all love it. Jake will be coming up for kindy soon and we may actually do a combination of daycare/kindy for him (lots of reasons but won't bore you!) but if we do that I might still take Morgan to playcentre as shes been going since two months old and LOVES the place!
