I'm not sure what to do. I was visiting a friend yesterday and her almost 4yo son bit me on the stomach (I'm 6 months pregnant). We were play fighting and I had him in a bear hug - nothing rough or hurtful and his reaction was to bite me. I was so shocked that I went and hid behind my husband. The lack of discipline that followed was almost as shocking - he was told to say sorry. That was it, and even then it took a while. I don't think he understood what he had done. I have 6 perfect teeth marks and a bruise on my tummy and a friend I'm not sure I want to visit again for a while. Any advice?

Ouch! That would be so sore.
A 4yr old should know better- many younger toddlers like around 18 months (from memory) go through a biting phase cos they dont know another way of expressing themselves- I remember Isla getting a really bad bite on her face from another kid.
Do you think he got a fright from the bear hug or did he get over excited by the games? He might have been as suprised that he bit you as you were. It might have just been a one off thing.
Whoever was going to dicipline the child, should have got down to their level and explained first what they had done wrong, and why its not acceptable.

O tends to get a bit over excited when playing rough and tumble and will often bite. When he does it though all playing stops straight away and he is told off very firmly, and always made to apologise, and in some cases sent to his room.

It does sound like quite "normal" behaviour especially for little boys, but it also sounds like it should have been dealt with more seriously.

Hope that you are okay!

My 3 year old very rarely bites. Its once in a blue moon.

However, if he bit someone, especially hard enough to leave a mark he would know hes done wrong. He would get my mummy voice (which makes him cry lol). I'd be so mortified by it.
