Hi guys.
Sorry in advance if this is a sensitive topic for people. I want to have a D&C. I don't want to wait another few weeks for things to happen naturally. Last time it was hell. I start a new job in two weeks and after that I am taking ten teenagers on a 5 day tramp. What is the process in Wellington these days? A few people have told me their stories and then said things like "and then I had a D&C the next day". How do I make this happen? I have a follow up scan on Thursday and then am seeing my GP. He said he will refer me to the WAS unit (whatever that is) at Wellington Hospital. Then what do I do? I can't remember from last time, but I am pretty sure I had a booking and turned up on the day. The thing is, I don't want a booking later, I want a booking now. I know this sounds horrid, but it's already been two weeks and I just want to move on. Yesterday if possible. |

I don't know the process myself but I know that my GP would be happy for me to call him and ask him questions like this during his time before he starts seeing patients. He has a window between 8-830 where he answers phone calls from his patients.
Thats what I would do personally and ask him how fast I could get it done, what can be done to speed the process up etc. |

I'm in Auckland and got mine done at North Shore so maybe a different deal up here, but it was only 6 days between my 12wk "bad" scan and my D&C.
Sounds like the health system is putting you through hell, have you got health insurance?? My boss got her D&C done privately (granted it was quite a few years ago now) but she pretty much had her scan found out the bad news and went straight in for a D&C privately the same day so might be worth looking into if you do have health insurance. Can completely understand you need to get this over with ASAP I hope the wait isn't too much longer for you  -------------  Angel Babies Nov 09, May 10, Dec 10

I had the "bad" scan on the Wednesday. Decided I wanted to get it all over and done with unlike first mc and called MW that night. She got me in to WAS (at Wellington hosp) the next day and they discussed the options with me and I had to wait til Monday 8am for the procedure. They didn't get everything out though as a scan 2 weeks later showed. So I went back there and they gave me Misoprostal which gave me some cramps but no bleeding. Had a BT today as my HCG was still not down to zero last week. It's been 5 weeks since we found out.
I got AF last week and it seems my cycle is returning to normal again. I preferred having D&C as there was no bleeding and it was painfree. If you go in this week you should be able to get one done by the end of the week, unless you have passed the baby already? They did say that you shouldn't have too many ops on your uterus as it can hinder TTC so that's why they gave me misoprostal to clear out the rest instead of another D&C. Hope this helps... I went to WAS the day after i decided it was time to take some action (a week after the scan when we discovered bubs hadn't made it). The midwife just let them know I was coming, I didn't have an appointment.

I went to Wellington hospy too, but had the Miso.
Scan Of Doom was on the Friday, and the back-up midwife phoned friday evening and told me I could go along to the assessment unit Monday if I wanted. The Acute Assessment people were pretty good, I went in Monday morning, having done a weekend of internet research (and sobbing of course) and they didn't push me into doing anything, but like you, I wanted to get things moving. Not sure what the time difference was for the D+C but I got the miso done that morning. I see you posted this yesterday, did you get on to it today? I think I can dig out the phone number if you need it (maybe better to PM me if you do, as I don;t check in here everyday, but a PM should send an alert to regular email) Hope you're doing ok - as ok as one can in this situ |

i would say once you have the scan on thurs and the doc refers they should be able to do it by the beginning of next week, so long as he makes the referral for straight away.

Wow. Ok, so this is a bit embarrassing, but in a good way. I am not having a D&C. I am lucky that I have a level headed doctor and I am lucky that he made me wait.
Against all odds, we got a heartbeat on ultrasound this morning. OH MY GOD! I am measuring only 6 weeks, which means it doesn't work out with my dates, my HCG levels (still low) or the fact that I got a positive pregnancy test two days before my period was due (which would have made it just 2 - 4 days after conception according to these measurements). It doesn't explain the early pregnancy symptoms either. My doctor is scratching his head and he can't explain it, but clearly a heartbeat is a good thing. An amazing thing! The pregnancy is high risk. On ultrasound they can see a couple of heommarage (sp?) sites, implantation has occurred in an odd spot in the uterus and the fact that my HCG is still low is of concern. But there is a heartbeat! And that's got to be good right? I am shaking and amazed. My only theory that makes any sense is that I ovulated late (has never happened in all the time I was charting) and that perhaps I was pregnant the month before and had an early miscarriage. My last period was heavy and painful, so it is possible. And that left some residual HCG in my system which was picked up, rather than the new pregnancy. This theory would require a number of coincedences all happening at once, but something has to explain this! Whatever explains it, I have learnt some valuable lessons today: - don't give up till the fat lady sings - actually, it IS possible to have low HCG and still be pregnant - life is surprising at times - embrace it Everyone's support has been great. It's nice that I might become one of those positive stories that people search for when they're feeling scared and anxious. In the meantime, please everyone cross your fingers for us! I am having another scan at 9 weeks to check, but said no to more HCG lest it just freak me out. Wow. Wow, wow, wow. Eek! YAY! |

I wasnt expecting that post I tell you!! So glad that there is a HB, the risk of MC decreases a lot once there is a HB so fingers (and everything else!!) crossed that its a sticky wee bean who is going to stress you out (in a good way) for years to come!! 
I know my first scan at 6w3d (I was charting) put me back to 5w4d (so nearly a week) I got a BFP at 14DPO, so my bub was measuring smaller too, so I think your bean is like mine

This happened with my 9 year old. Had bleeding then scan with no heartbeat. Dates worked out I was over 6 weeks therefore the scan result was a miscarriage at 4 weeks due to size etc. Got hcg bloods done which were low to start with for my dates and then three days later they had tripled and another scan a week later showed a heartbeat. The doctors have no explanation other than I messed up my dates. It was a case of we only did it once that month so 100% certain on our dates. The only explanation or theory I have is that we are human and we all are different including rates of development etc. If everything was textbook then we would all arrive on our due dates and be the same weight etc. Good luck with your pregnancy. If its any consolation my son was the roughest start but the best labour so hopefully it works this way for you. |

Wow kiwi2... what a GREAT story! It's cool to hear stories like this and know that the pregnancy was successful. Right now I am still quite anxious and can't see how it would possibly work out in my favour (even though I feel really ill!!).
