What stage are you meant to do them - is it 6 or 7 weeks? From memory, 7 weeks and you'll definitely see a heartbeat but 6 weeks isn't always the case.

Just trying to work out when to book mine in. Last time I did it too early for the heart beat and I don't want that again.

Do you have to have these? Is it something you pay extra for?

you only pay for them if you're under the Canterbury DHB zone. They're free for all the other ones >< But no, you dont have to have them if you dont want :D

Have to pay for them in Southland, I've had to pay for every single one of my scans so far

Gotta pay in Palmy too and the prices here have gone up, my NT scan is gonna cost $50, I'm sure with Jared it was $40 and with Daniel it was $30. All the other scans at broadway have gone up.

7w is better if you want to make sure of a heartbeat

Really even you 12 and 20 weeks scans?
I was told they're free maybe that only for the Manawatu.

$30-40 is ok, I was thinking they'd be more like $100 or something.

Stacey do you have to go through your LMC to get your scan at Broadway Radiology or can you book direct?

12 weeks you do have to pay for in Auckland
My 7 week with Daniel was free
I had to pay for the 20 week, more cos I wanted 4D. Don't know if I'll do that this time.

You need the referall for a subsidy (doc can give you that as well as a MW) otherwise you will be paying $100+

You have to pay in Dunedin too, I think they charge you for the first 4 scans ($35 I think) and if you need more after that they are free. (I had fortnightly ones for the last trimester last time).
My GP said 7 weeks is better than 6 so you can be sure of seeing the heartbeat.

I reckon the 12 and 20 week ones should be free, esp since they're encouraging people to do the Nuchal Screening. The 20 week one is important in terms of viewing anatomy and planning for if there are abnormalities and I would think this is a standard part of antenatal care rather than an optional extra (the 4D bit I do consider optional).

That's what I thought Flissty, maybe its cause I'm 36
I was pretty sure my GP said I'm entitled to those and something she called the triple test between 14-16 weeks. The first two to look at the neck for nuchal screening.

I *think* the test she might be referring to is a blood test hun... they use the BT (between 14 and 16 weeks) in conjunction with the NT scan (between 11 and 13w5d?) as the 2 together are far more accurate.

A dating scan isnt necessary unless you have no idea when you are due.... it is nice to see the wee butterfly though

BT is now at the same time as the scan, but if you miss that date, there's another screening protocol they can use in the 2nd trimester.

Yep, I'm doing the dating so I can set my mind at ease that there's a baby there, and so I can try and avoid the induction dramas I had last time.

i went at 6 both times and saw heartbeat but i had high levels so knew i would.. i would wait till 7 if i were you

had to pay 50$ for all my scans 180 without referral apparently .. ! (had scans at 6, 12,20) got offered the BT.. (I think?you used to have to pay for it?) but she said she wouldnt bother with a low risk so i didnt.. but if i was older than i am (32) i would have done it)

I'm not bothered about a dating scan, as my dates are pretty accurate, they could be a week out, apparently it doesn't matter that I have 34 day cycle, its always worked out at 9 months plus 7 days and I know when my last AF was, joys of charting.

12 weeks will be the first baby picture then. I will got for the BT mostly for peace of mind.

I think I was 7 weeks at mine, or 8 weeks...I just remember that I was one week less than I thought so I was annoyed haha

OT ..caliandjack ! you're mrsg1 ! I've been trying to figure out who you were for ages, but I didn't want to ask cos I thought I should probably know ...congrats on bubs!

lol Kelly, you need to lurk more!

I went at 5w and there was just a sac, went again at 6w3d and there was only JUST a Hb (seriously, it was this tiny little blinking dot!)

7 weeks or more would be ideal, esp if you arent entirely sure of dates, this early on a few days really does make a difference!

Yep, in Manawatu, you only get the 12 and 20 week scans as standard. I had an earlier one for suspected ectopic and then 2 later ones for placenta previa. Scans before 12 weeks are free here (so I had one free at 6 weeks), but they make sure they book you in for your nuchal scan after 12 weeks, so you have to pay for it and all the rest, even if they are medically necessary.

Broadway put their prices up between my 12 and 20 week scans, so its now $50 per scan (although I was told it's $170 without a referral because then you don't get the govt subsidy). All up I paid $190 for scans when I was pregnant. But don't worry, she's worth it

I think its cheaper if you have a community services card though?

Even though I had a scan at 6w 2d that agreed exactly with my dates, the 12 week scan put me back 5 days, and that is the one the MW went with for my EDD. Not that it mattered, mind you, DD ignored all such dates and waited until she was ready 10 days later

Wow Im in shock that you have to pay for scans! Here in Wellys everything is free unless you specifically request it. So if your MW wants you to do a 6 week etc.

My 12 week was free (had to have 2 coz bubba wouldnt stay still) and my 20 week one will be aswell.

Good ol welly - gotta make up for the wind

Where did you meet your partner? As strange as it may seem, I met my husband on a dating site https://bestapp.dating/en-us/us/nc/mecklenburg-county/charlotte/singles.html" rel="nofollow - https://bestapp.dating/en-us/us/nc/mecklenburg-county/charlotte/singles.html . I have never thought that occasional acquaintance on a dating portal will develop into strong relationship and marriage. We are already four years together and now awaiting our baby.
