So we have just made the switch to solids before milk and am wondering if anyone else noticed a huge reduction in the amount of milk drunk?
I'm still BF'ing so it is of course impossible to measure but DS use to drain both sides every feed (4 feeds a day plus 1x overnight) and now I'm struggling to get him to take more than a couple of minutes off one side but his solid intake has not increased greatly since the switch??
Babies are so confusing! Just when you think you have things sorted they go and change it on you!

how long are you leaving before you give the milk... i think with my kids they were all over 9 months old when i did solids first... and sometimes at almost 2 boobie comes first still for breakfast.

Jake has boob first thing in the morning, before naps and before bed.... and sometimes overnight... the before naps feeds are not very big at all, more of a drink really.
Are you offering snacks and water?

Hi
My son is 9 months and we have made the transition to solids first. It was a bit strange at first but now it's fine. It can be hard when breast feeding not knowing how much your baby is drinking but I never really worry as I trust he knows how much he wants.
I always bf him first in the mornings as I love feeding him in bed. Usually he wakes just before DH goes to work so I just stay in bed and DH brings him in to me. We usually cuddle/play in bed for a while before getting up. I can't imagine I be changing this until he weans.
I don't offer breakfast for at least an hour after he first wakes up, and similarily I don't offer bf for at least an hour after his lunch and dinner. LIke a previous poster said this is usally just before a nap and just before bed. I offer water throughout the day but he isn't really that interested.
Hope this helps and if I were you I'd just go with the flow and let Corban work it out. I'm sure he'll have more if he's hungry/thirsty.

Oops sorry forgot I had started this!
Bizzy - I was going by plunket guidelines of within the hour eg Lunch at 11.15 and BF about 12pm.
Melnel - He drinks heaps of water, probably easily 300mls a day. Don't official offer snacks but he does have bits and pieces of whatever I'm eating throughout the day.
He is still feeding twice overnight Usually around midnight and 5.30am so doesn't want BF first thing when he gets up around 7am anyway. Maybe that's our problem, he's drinking too much at night time??

I was told jsut the other day to start Cory on solids first, before his milk, but we have only just managed to get him onto 4 bottles of 150mls a day....and hes having 3 solids as well

Plunket say now to start solids first at 8 months. Maybe they recommended 9 months in the past. Remember you don't have to do what they say, just take it as a guide.
