How often does your tot sleep in your bed?

When DS is sick it's easier for him to be in my bed, so I can settle him regularly rather than run into his room eleventy million times. This is probably once a month I guess.

But lately he's been waking at night and not settling well like he can do. Almost like he's had a bad dream and really screaming. Not every night but it seems like quite a few times this month already. At a loss of what to do - and both being exhausted - we chuck him in bed with us and he's out like a light.

Same again if he wakes at 5am. He's either awake for the day (nooo!) or we can eke out another hour and half of sleep if we put him in with us.

In the back of my mind, I'm concerned it might be creating a bad habit. Especially when #2 comes along (not for ages though!) Opinions please?

Alex seems to be in our bed most nights at the mo with the same thing. Although he has been teething, sick and then teething but the only thing that seems to help us all get sleep is all in the big bed. I wouldn't worry about it myself as me and all my siblings were raised with sleeping in each others plus Mum and Dad's bed and I don't think it started any bad habits. It all depends on what you want too do. Alex will sleep in his bed and did last night (even though he woke twice and needed to be cuddled) so I don't think it creates bad habits. If your all getting the sleep you need I wouldn't worry about it.   But thats just my opinion.

Never I just can't sleep with him there but I'm not against it in theory.

I put E down in her cot at bedtime, then when she wakes she comes into my bed because it's easier (and I like the company). I'm not having anymore so not to worried about bad habits. She'll be sleeping in her own bed by the time she's 12.

DS use to wake at 5am every morning and I would put him in with us. This was from 1 year on. Gradually he learnt to sleep later and now never comes into out bed so I wouldn't worry too much.

we've had Tom in there the last 3 nights . We went through a bad phase about 3 months ago but then he stopped and just recently its started with hysterical screaming and then he comes up to us. He doesnt go to sleep though...he can lie there (thankfully still and quiet) for up to 2 hours wide awake. Its fricken weird!

We are having a few wakings at the moment when hes really upset so he has been hoping into our bed for a bit, then putting him back in the cot after an hour or so. also when we get early morning wakings he gets in with us. Im not too bothered about it at the moment.

I bring DS into bed at 5am every morning - have been doing it since he was tiny. He just has a quick feed and goes straight back to sleep. It's so lovely sleeping next to him - specially when he snuggles up in the crook of my arm. (Not so lovely when he wakes up and starts smacking me in the face / pulling my hair tho! )

I don't have any problem with it, or worry that it's going to create 'bad habits'. We'll deal with anything like that further down the track...

never.....and we never co slept when she was little.

she might snuggle up once every 2 months or so if not well for an hour to try and sleep but she never stays in our bed.....

she will come in for a cuddle in morning...that lasts five mins if I am lucky LOL!

I agree Joscia - I dont want to create habits either...

we never ever have either..though i can totally see why parents do...!!!! when he cries we try to settle him or sit with him for a little while ...I tried to have him come and cuddle in the morning and he wont even do that:) but for us it was also a conscious decision not to.. but i totally can see why people do!
