feeding themselves?
I'm just asking because I'm sure Mikey was quite a bit older than Maia when he started really successfully feeding himself. Maia has been able to feed herself pretty well with not too much mess (unless she gets full and tips the whole bowl over for fun) since she was about 11 months old. the food can't be too runny of course, she's not that coordinated yet, but she can handle pretty much anything else.
I dunno, maybe Mikey was a bit of a late starter?

Jack was just under a year for stodgy foods (like weetbix, mashed potato etc) but a bit older for things requiring more co-ordination. I think boys often like playing with food a bit more than eating it though

Callum feeds himself finger foods and knows how to get a spoon from the bowl to his mouth (or into mine ) but he still thinks it's a game most of the time and definitely can't be trusted with a bowl on his tray!!!! So I feed him 90% of the time and hold the bowl so that he can use his spoon when he wants to IYKWIM.
I once nannied a kid who was 3yo and WOULDN'T feed himself when I first started working with him.

wow, 3 years, that's quite old. unless there was some sort of reason for slow development you'd think most 3 year olds would be able to feed themselves!

Jackson still doesn't feed himself and he's 16 months! But we're not encouraging it due to the feeding issues and I am dreading the day he begins to insist!!

No he had just never learned He had been spoilt rotten by the maid so had never used a spoon, let alone a knife and fork.
I've seen 6yr olds being spoon fed at food courts here
