There are no milk allergies in my family and DS didn't react at all when I gave him milk in his weetbix (whoops, that was before plunket said I couldn't), so can I use a bit of milk in his mashed potatoes etc now that he's 9.5 months old?

DD quite often has milk with things. Milk on weetbix since she was around 7mths and I don't worry too much about it. I'm sure it'll be fine DD has tried Paris mash, which is equal quantities potatoes, cream & butter! (Only a small amount though )

Everything in moderation and as long as you're confident there isn't any allergies to worry about then go for it

Marvellous thanks for that Anna! I wasn't worried about the milk thing but plunket said I shouldn't so I stopped doing it, he'd only had it twice anyway with weetbix (I thought I saw that the other March mummies were).

I think I may just do what I feel like with the food and not worry about the charts too much

I used milk in cooking from about 7mo with Callum, we were sure there were no allergies to worry about and, honestly? I thought Plunket were saying now that dairy in cooking is fine? We've also given C yoghurt and cheese from around that age too. No probs - he LOVES dairy!

He has yoghurt daily too, and cheese every couple of days and no issues there (like his Daddy, he loves Cheese haha)

Yea I thought it was fine too but when I mentioned to her that I gave Ryan milk in his weetbix she said not to til 12 months!

I think just any milk before 12 months should be formula or BM, not so much not to give dairy at all, I could be wrong though. I also thought that weetbix before 12 months wasn't recommended? something to do with the sodium content?

Plunket said milk was fine in food/cooking as long as its not the main source of milk kwim. With weetbix they don't reccommend it as too much fibre, however i have given it to all my kids from 6-7months every 2nd or 3rd day without any probs.

Ditto re the main issue with dairy before 12m being not to rely on it as the main source of milk. This is the advice given here in Singapore too

In NZ plunket says to delay dairy food, but in the UK dairy food is ok from 6mths.
But ditto to the comments about not having milk as a drink under 12mths.

I seems to depend on who your Plunket Nurse is though They don't all seem to give the same advice. I think it really comes down to common sense and everything in moderation.
I also don't quite understand why anyone would give their young babies a bottle of cows' milk when it clearly says ''Not suitable for infant consumption'' (or something along those lines) on the bottle.
