The head nurse at neonatal told me to make sure that it was a whey based formula, NOT casein. We use Karicare and haven't had any problems (and have done since they were born), but sometimes it takes a few goes before you find the right one for your bubs. Some people say Karicare froths, but we haven't found it frothy at all, unless you use warm water...so we use cold water to make it up and then heat it afterwards (in a jug of boiling water).

One key piece of info I found out after a week of unsettled babies is to make sure you never give cold formula - it sets like concrete in their tummy and they aren't happy babies!!!

We have used S26 and Nurture, and he was ok on both. The only thing we found is the that the gold version made him really constipated.

I didn't know that about goats milk - interesting.

I used Karicare. My plunket nurse is an ex Starship nurse and she said they use it up there.   Gold seems to supset alot of tummies.

May be a bit of trial and error.

Yeah they use Karicare (or sometimes S26) in most hospitals.

We've always used S26 plain formula and never had any problems. I was always advised to stay away from gold formulas for newborns.

I have no idea about goats milk formulas - I always just got told whey based. I would seek advice before starting on it though as you don't want to be on completely the wrong path with it IYKWIM.

Ring the Nutricia line, there are dieticians there that can advise you
