DS is 5mths +, and I've moved from BF to 100% FF.
The pack says 5 feeds per day.
But I thought FFs were supposed to be 4hrly. That'd be 7am, 11, 3 & 7pm - that's only 4 feeds a day.
Should I feed 3hrly? (7,10,1,4,7)

I'm still feeding 3hrly because he seems to need it during the day. So he's getting 5 FF's a day at the moment still.
According to the tin he should have 250ml but I only give him 200ml each time because he doesn't get through a 250ml bottle with the solids he's having as well.

Meant to say as well - just use it as a guideline for what you think your DS needs.

My DS never drunk what the tin said, he still only drinks 150ml at a time max at 9 months. He was having 6 bottles a day, but is now on 4. Def just go by what your DS wants, plunket told me he should be having a certain amount a day in total so didnt matter how many etc... sometimes he had more some less but he was happy.

Just go with the flow for the first few days unitl you figure it out, don't worry too much about what the tin says, each child varies. Ava and Jack have never had the recommended amount - sure they are smaller than 'average' so probably don't take as much, but they've never starved (and Ava's always been 4-hourly).

I still demand fed Spencer when I weaned him and he didn't have a routine until he went onto solids and then he just fell into that himself. He never ever drank as much as the tin said he should, but then he was and still is on the 3rd percentile so no way he was gonna drink the average baby amount.
I think plunket do have a recommended range of how much milk they ideally should have each day so it might be good to ask your nurse that, or plunketline or have a look in the thriving under 5 book to see if it's in there somewhere.

He doesn't 'demand' to be fed until ages (like 5hrs) after last feed. Unless he sees a bottle that is, then he definately wants it - there's an idea - maybe i could just wave a bottle in front of him after about 3 hrs and see what happens.
I read somewhere it's 150ml x weight in kg per day - in which case he's only getting about 3/4 of that.

Each child varies. We let the girls "demand" to an extent - try to wait until they wake up, so it's usually around 5 hours between feeds (sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more), and therefore they're on 4 feeds per day (200ml each time, except in the morning it's 210ml followed by Farex). Plunket used to tell me I wasn't feeding them enough, but I ignored them - they said it straight after expressing astonishment at how much weight they had put on in a 2 week period. The girls are happy and contented, and consistently putting on 200-250g per week, so I figure that it's what suits them and so we keep it at that.

The formula you said above really only applys to 3 months and under so don't get hung up on that.
My boys are both formula babies and both tanks and neither ever drank what the tin said but then they never did 4 hourly feeds either.
Just do whatever you feel comfortable with. If he lasts 4 hours and takes bigger amounts when doing it that why then great, if he is better off 3 hourly than ran with that.
My 3 month old is basically 3 hourly - he has put himself in routine but only takes 120-150mls at a time.

My 5 (almost 6) monther has 4 bottles a day, plus one breast feed. The are all 200mls, except the one before bed which is 250ml. Her bottles are generally 3 hours apat (she sleeps6pm-7am).
I hve a friend whose baby (6months) only takes 150 at a time and will only have 4 bottles a day, 3 hours apart......obviously all babies are different.

Yup, same here, C never drank what the tin said - he had more per feed but less feeds/day. He was on 4x 210ml feeds a day at 6m, roughly 4 hourly depending on when he woke up.
My friend's baby (around the same age) has always had at least one more bottle than C per day because he will only drink 150ml max in one go.
