Just wondering what time your kids go to bed at night?
My son is two years four months and has always been a really consistent sleeper. (7-7) sometimes later even until 8am and a three hour nap in the afternoon. I have been very lucky! However since we have been away this has all gone out the window! He wont seem to go to sleep at night till 8:30 ish when the sun goes down. We have his room reasonably dark but it still doesnt seem to make a difference. He is still sleeping in the afternoons but its for 1-2 hours these days, which is probably normal for his age. So really just wondering what is your child's bed time? I am worried that this is way too late! Although it usually means a sleep in in the morning till 8 or so! Thanks! |

Hi Simone, my daughter is a similar age and she goes to bed between 7-7.30pm and wakes around 6am. She has an afternoon nap at 1ish. I don't think it's uncommon for kids to find it harder to get to sleep with the long days. What time is his afternoon nap? We are having trouble with Tom. He used to be 7-7 and 3 hours in the afternoon too. It literally fell apart with daylight savings and has not improved. Mind you it is only just getting dark here now at 10pm and pre daylight savings we were in a different house with black out curtains he couldnt pull down.
These days I find if he has his afternoon sleep (he will happily do 3 hours) I cant get him to bed easily at night...as in 8.30 - 9pm ish...grr...if I drop the afternoon sleep which I am loathe to do, he often flakes out about 6.30. I am currently trying a)earlier afternoon sleep....eg 12 instead of 1 or b) 1pm afternoon sleep but waking him up after 90min. I also try and exhaust him in the morning....and should do the same in the afternoon...but this has the bad side effect of exhausting me too.

Spencer is normally in bed by 6.45pm, he sometimes goes to sleep straight away and other times is chatting to himself for about an hour before dropping off. We had some trouble about a month ago with him either keep coming out of his room or getting out of bed and playing in his room so I took all his toys out of his room and closed the door on him if he got out of bed. After a couple of days he realised it was better to stay in bed and have the door left open.
You could try putting him down for his nap earlier so he had more awake hours before going back to bed at night, and sitting in with him reading a story until he has settled down might help him then go to sleep (if you don't already do that). I find sometimes when Spencer is really tired he is too tired to settle, but if I read for a while he ends up calming down and laying down and then he will settle, but if I leave him too it he will get in and out of bed or start jumping off his bed or using it as a trampoline etc and he doesn't wind down. -------------

After daylight savings Jakes bedtime started creeping later too. Now he goes into his room at 7.30 for books, so asleep about 7.45 or so, some nights hes up til closer to 8pm though. He still has a 2-3.5hr nap .... can even do 4 hours if really buggered, but hes in daycare two days a week and will only sleep about 1.5 hours now that hes in the over 2s room, as they don't sleep in a seperate room. Hes up early though - between 6 and 7am.
Quite a few of the 10 kids in my coffee group (all 2yrs 6mths - 2yrs 7mths) have an 8 / 8.30 bedtime now, or have pretty much dropped the day nap and go down earlier. My neice (2 yrs 4mths) is down by 7pm, but she has only 30-60mins nap most days, then the odd 2 hour nap to catch up - and is getting up really early at the mo. ------------- DS (5yrs) and DD (3yrs) |

| Daniel is in bed between 7-7:30 and generally awake at 630, doesn't seem to matter what time he goes to bed he always wakes at that time. He sometimes has a nap but its less than 2hrs if he does unless sick. |

| If Sam has a nap during the day he is up until 10PM + so we've scrapped that unless he's really tired and grumpy. If he hasn't had a nap, it's between 7 and 7:30PM bedtime and he will wake anywhere between 7 and 9AM. Sometimes even if he hasn't had a sleep he is awake singing and mucking until well after 9PM. Drives me mental! |

During summer Ella normally goes to bed between 7-7.30 (in winter it ends up between 6.30-7), but she lies in bed chattering away to herself for up to an hr. At first it drove me nuts, but now (after doing a post here on it), I just ignore her and let her be (although the other day I checked on her just before going to bed, to discover that sometime during the chattering she had gotten out of bed, taken off her PJs and night nappy and put on her old clothes and knickers and gone back to sleep ------------- Mum to Ella (5) and Tom (2) |

haha, how cute of Ella! I should have said also -- Jake talks for a bit some nights too, but most nights is asleep very quickly ... and if we've had people over or been out, he will happily stay up til 8.30/9pm now (never used to be able to do that a few months back!). ------------- DS (5yrs) and DD (3yrs) |

yeah it was cute the first night Nikki, and then last night she did the same thing so I had to change her again before bed and then she did it again during the night (which i didn't know about) so we woke up this morning to a very wet bed (and blankie). She was quite upset about her blankie getting wet, so hopefully she won't do that again
Ella is also getting better at handling later nights and is quite happy to party the night away until she is put to bed. ------------- Mum to Ella (5) and Tom (2) |

Josh has for the longest time always gone to bed between 8.30 and 10 and wakes after 8 in the mornings. Doesnt bother me or him means he gets more time with Dad as DP only gets home from work closer to 6 so josh is use to tea with us at 6.30 bath about 7.30 then bed when ever he starts seeming tired (if its been a long day for me i put him down at 8.30 otherwise we wait till he seems ready)
Bedtime does vary alot because his afternoon naps vary some days its an hour other days he will nap up to 3 or more hours hence not being ready to go down for the night till aound 10 Would be nice if he was more consistant but it doesnt affect him and i dont have the energy to inforce a set bedtime at the moment with my ms. Things might change with the new baby tho if im wanting them to sleep similar times for my own sanity  -------------
