Hi All,
I am now 6 weeks pregnant after my 1st IVF cycle. We only had one embie fertilise and we are over the moon that he/she want to stick around.
I was lucky enough to get invited to take part in a trial prior to having IVF. That was to have my uterus flushed with Lipiodol (which is poppy seed oil). In a previous study they found that doing this dramatically increased the chances of women with Endo and unexplained infertility getting pregnant naturally. They are now seeing if it improves the chances of these women getting pregnant with IVF. I really believe that this has been a huge factor in me getting pregnant first time with IVF.
So if any of you ladies are waiting for IVF, I would see if you can get on this trial, there is a 50/50 chance that you will be choosen to get the lipiodol. If not I would pay the $900 it costs to have the procedure.
I hope this helps some you achieve your dreams.
Much Love
Zoe

I had unexplained infertility for 2 years and I had the same flush out as part of a study at Greenlane.
2 months later I got pregnant. I believe that this worked for us too.
If we have problems with number 2, I wouldn't hesitate to get this done again.
Congratulations to you Zoe!

Wow - congrats to both of you. My acupuncturist told me about this and it's something we may look into if what we are in the process of doing does not work out shortly.

I was with fertility plus. Neil Johnston sent me a letter through them. Which fertiltiy clinic are you going through Elleroo? I would ask them about it.
Star, that's great that it worked for you, congratulations!
Good luck everyone. xx

Hi ladies,
could someone who has had the Lipiodol done share the details about this procedure. Also any details on where was it done ie the clinic or hospital, how long did it take, do they use anaesthetic or any injections, is there a recovery time or any side effects etc. Do they need to dilate the cervix etc
Nothing will be TMI
Thanks for your post purpleboon sharing this with us!

Hi Tanners,
I had the procedure done at Auckland Radiology. It's a really simple procedure that took about 15 mins. They don't use anaesthetic or injections. It's a bit like having a a smear test that takes a little longer and is a bit more uncomfortable. They insert a tube into your uterus, flush the lipiodol through, take an x ray to check it has gone right through the tubes and that's it. You lie on the bed for 10 minutes after and then you are free to go. If you google lipiodol flushing, information will come up.
Any other questions, I'll be happy to answer.

Thanks for the info Zoe, I wanted to ask the clinic about it before my next IVF cycle here in Wellington but wanted to get the details on it first.
Congrats on your pregnancy, and wishing you a very happy and healthy one

Hi Happy, why does your specialist not think it would be worthwhile for you?

I had a laproscopy done at the same time to check everything else was ok.
So I had a general anaesthitic (sp?) and the whole procedure took about 45 mins. I got there in the morning and left mid afternoon, took longer waiting around and waking up after.
I was really nervous beforehand as I haven't had a general before but the staff were amazing and I was impressed about the how easy it was.
Because I had a laproscopy as well I had a few days off work.

i have chosen not to do it either....my new spec is not a fan, and have to say the bad experience I had involved the people who developed that system...so wont go back to them for that reason!!
have chosen to do IUI ...and if that doesnt work then will go IVF....
but am still very pleased for anyone that this works for.....any BFPs is a great thing!
