Can a baby get this more than once? Our chemist said that they can only get it once ...

I believe so.
Maybe he means if it goes through your house over a week maybe, that baby won't re catch?
My kids have both had it twice. Once this year and once last.

The short answer is yes. It's like the common cold - there are many different strains of rotavirus, and by the time a child starts school, they will probably have had it 4 (in various forms and degrees of illness) times. The severity varies, and often an adult will have it either before the child, or contract it from the child, but we don't get as sick because we have some immunity to it because of prior exposure.
