Just wondering what age everyone's children dropped their day sleep. And also how did you know they were ready ie. did they stop going to sleep when put to bed during the day, did they play up when going to bed at night or did they start waking really early? Ashleigh has still been having a sleep most days and will quite easily go to sleep (and still seems to need it as she gets very tired) but for the last month or so has been waking between 5 and 6am and has always been around 7am. So I'm trying to drop her day sleep but she is sooooo overtired and grumpy

Leah dropped from 1 to none at 2 yrs 2 months......she was still getting very tired during the day but if she had a sleep even if it was only 30 mins then it meant she was still awake at 9pm. Once she started the no sleep during the day thing she has been in bed asleep by 6.30. Can't help about the early mornings as Leah has night terrors and/or nightmares and wakes everynight.

Gina dropped her day sleep a couple of months ago now - so at around 2.5 years. She just started refusing to go to sleep and doesn't appear tired. We get her to do some quiet stuff ie read books, draw to give her a rest (and us too) but we let her be mostly. She goes to bed at 8-8:30 in the evening and wakes up around 7-7:30.
Emma (who loves copying Gina) is working on dropping her sleep at the moment and only sleeps for around 30 min or sometimes not at all. She does get quite tired & grumpy and the only thing that seems to work is putting her to bed early in the evening - tonight she went to bed at 7pm - it does mean that she'll wake up at 6am though

My son dropped his day sleep at 18 months. He just refused to go to sleep in the afternoon, & when he did happen to have the day sleep he wouldn't go to bed till 9 or 10 o'clock at night (his normal bedtime is 7pm). Initially he was a bit tired by bedtime, but not much & it didn't take him long to adapt to not having the day sleep. I really miss that time to myself in the afternoon, but at least he sleeps from 7 or 7.30pm till 7.30 or 8 am every night.

I have the same question here. Yusra is 2 years and 5 months old. It has been a few times that Yusra was still awake approx 1 hr after I put her down for day sleep but most other days she falls asleep fine. And she would sleep for about 2 hours. However, we have been struggling at night. It really annoys me that she wouldn't want to go to bed until or even after 10pm. I hate to keep her awake deliberately during the day in order for her to fall asleep easily at night, but may have to.....?!
