Hi ladies, I am still lurking around!
I am hoping to do a round of IUI with clomid soon.
I am not sure how I am going to manage working this in with my workplace.
I was hoping you might be able to help me with a few questions?
FA told me the blood tests need to be done in the morning. What time do they have to be done by?
How long do they take?
How many days do you have to have the blood tests done?
And then how many times do you need to go to FA for the 'scan' before they do the actual IUI procedure?
Thank you so much for any advice. It's really tricky for me as I start work at 6.30am, and the blood test place opens at 7.30am. I need to know all the facts before I approach my bosses about what I need.
THANK YOU! Am dying to start this IUI as it has now been almost 20 months TTC.

Hi Elleroo,
I haven't done IUI, but am on my second monitored cycle with Clomid, so can tell you about that ..
Are you in Auckland?
With the blood tests to check impending ovulation and whether you actually did ovulate, you need to have them done at a lab before 9am (unless you go to Ellerslie, which I think has a later deadline of 11am).
Did they give you a 'white card' to take for blood tests? It has a list of the labs that you can go to on the back but double check with the one that you decide to go to because some of them are closing later this month (the one I go to on Symonds St is, I'll have to go elsewhere after that, haven't figured that out yet!).
Depending on your 'place in line' when you get to the lab, it's very fast. They just take one vial of blood and you're on your way. I'm normally in and out in less than 5 minutes. If the lab is busy though, it can take a bit longer.
The amount of blood tests you have before your scan depends on your rising estrogen levels. In my last cycle I had to have three blood tests (1 every few days from about CD10) until they thought it was appropriate for me to have a scan.
Sorry not sure on the process from there with IUI, hopefully one of the other girls can help :-).

Thank you very much Victoria. :) :) :)
I am in Tauranga. I guess I should ring the lab and ask what time is the latest i could go in.
It's such a mare i can't just go after work, that way work would never have to know!!

Hey Elleroo, good luck for your upcoming cycle. I haven't done IUI as such but have been thru IVF with FA Hamilton and had to have blood tests done in Tauranga too.
I found as early as possible is the best time to get blood tests done, as sometimes there is quite a long wait. FA told me I needed to have them done by eight in the morning to get them on the first courier over to them.
Hope that helps, and wish you the best of luck!

Hi Elleroo
I am on my third cycle of clomid & IUI. Each time the number of scans and blood tests I have needed has been different.
Blood tests usually need to be done asap in the morning and I have found that there is usually a bit of a wait first thing as all the fasting tests are done in the am too. My first cycle I had to have about 5 days of bloods, round 2 about 4 days and this cycle I have only needed 2 (YAY!!! - hate needles).
My first round I had 2 scans but both last round & this one I only needed 1 scan. I was given appointment times for the scans. After your first blood test (mine were always on day 8) FA will phone you & let you know what is going to happen the next day. This makes it easier for work as you know what times you are going to be away etc. The scans only take about 10 mins to do so once you're in the clinic its really quick.
Hopefully that answers some of your questions.
I am having my insemination on Saturday & am hoping for 3rd time lucky.
All the best with your treatment!!

Thanks so much farmgirl. Wishing you lots of luck for your third time. You so deserve it. Third time lucky I hope xxxxxx
I think we are going to bite the bullet and start it, and work is going to have to deal with it.
Very exciting! I can't think further ahead than just one IUI at the moment, who knows what will happen but I will cross each bridge as I come to it.
xoxo

Hi Happygal
It depends what the results of your BT on Friday say - if the estrodial levels are >500 they'll usually get you in for a scan within a couple of days to see how the follicle/s are developing, if it's <500 then they will probably get you to do another BT in a few days to recheck. Then you get another one about a week after suspected Ovulation to check whether you did (ov) or not.
Good luck for friday!

This is my third cycle, but I didn't ovulate during cycle 1 or 2, so it almost feels like it's still my first. I have a BT on Monday so I'm crossing all fingers and toes that this time it works - for me to ovulate will be absolutely massive (I have PCOS with no ovulation/AF on my own).

Hi there everyone,
I'm a newbie on this site and am about to start IUI . I have my first BT on the 20th of this month after going through the process since June 08 and TTC since Jan 07.
Not on clomid or anything, apparently are trying 'natural' first off.
While I am glad that its finally about to begin, I'm a bit apprehensive about the whole process.
Going thru the public system hasnt been a great experience so far, some people have been better than others at Fert + but I guess you get that.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi to everyone and wish everyone the best...

Welcome Rubyrock :).
Good luck with the IUI, hopefully natural works for you and you don't have to progress to use of Clomid as well. Sorry to hear you've not had a great time of it with the public system, issues with difficulty TTC are hard enough as it is without the system making it harder . FX you get your BFP this cycle though and don't have to deal with it any longer!
