We are going insane with Astin lately!!
He is usually a really good sleeper!!! 4 hours during the day and 8pm bedtime and sleep till 8am without waking......but lately he will still sleep for me at home during the day but will not sleep for longer than half hour at daycare and thats with a whole lot of tantrums and trials of sleeping alone and in diferent beds etc.... It doesnt stop there though!! - he has suddenly decided he WILL NOT sleep in his own room no matter what!! obviously fine during the day but nightime .....it use to be that we could put him in his bed, tuck him in, say good night, turn light off and leave the room and he would go to sleep till the morning with the odd occasion of him comming into my room around 3am in which i would then take him back to his bed and tuck him in and he would go back to sleep....... NOW this is how it goes - put him in bed at 8pm (have tried changing time but made no difference), he will then scream until 10pm when hel either go to sleep or we will give in  when we give in we put him on a matress on the floor of our room when we dont give in he will come into our room at diferent times during the night (i mean different every night) and if i try putting him back it turns into a huge tantrum that ends up waking the household up and carrying on for a long time!!! and ending in him on the matress of our floor
DH says to just leave his light on and door shut the whole night but i get upset at the thought of him waking and being "trapped" in his room alone!!
last night when i was putting him to bed he ran full tit into my room with a couch cussion and pretended to sleep on the bare ground (no matress or blankets) just so he could stay in there which upset me so much to have to put him in his room.... I NEED HELP!!! i will have a NB soon and i wont be able to deal with 2 babies with sleeping issues!!

I can't help, but just wanted to offer hugs and tell you that I have a newborn and an 18month old that still doesn't manage a whole night... (wakes and doesn't settle back very easily) it does suck! So hope you can get it sorted!!

hey Bel do you find that Luke wakes Amy with his fussing??? im worried baby will become soooo unsettled from not having any sleep at the hands of Astin

Biggest problem I have is that he doesn't need much encouragement to wake up in the middle of the night - so she wakes him... and then he can take 2hrs to settle again.
She seems to sleep through anything at night which is great! ------------- Mum to two beautiful kids

I'd get tough and get DH on board and come up with a plan of attack like..
Put him to bed, if he gets out he gets put straight back while someone sits in the room with him and don't give in. Take it in shifts if you need to and then the next night make sure you guys are sitting a little further away from his bed and do the same thing. Then the next night sit in the door, following night outside the door etc. It would take a lot of work until he gets the message. If it were Daniel though I'd make sure nothing was wrong and shut the door and leave him to it going in every 15 mins to put him back into bed but it doesn't sound like you want to do that. We have been tough since he went into a big bed (so at about 17 months I think) and he's a very good sleeper at night cause he knows his stalling tactics don't work and he is going to be in his bed and no one elses |

unfortunately wev tried the shifts thing Stacey and it didnt really work with MR STUBBORN!! we could never get away from his bed.
I dont mind shutting his door when he is put in bed as he usually stays in bed and screams from the comfort of bed its more the night waking bcos we are all being woken up by his constant screaming
Do you think i should leave his door shut all night?? hope that doesnt sounds cruel

| Daniels door has always been shut all night every night. If shutting the door is cruel then I'm an extremely cruel mumma lol.. if the door was left open Daniel would never go to sleep and stay asleep in his room. Whenever he goes to the in laws for the night they leave the door open and he's up at 5am instead of the normal 7-8am here |

Nope, we have black out shades, light is on while DH reads him a book, DH leaves, light goes off and he doesn't come out until after 7am, so its really dark. If Astin likes a bit of light you could always get a little night light for him. When Daniel grows tall enough to open up the door (which will be a couple of months away) and if that becomes a problem we will get one of those little sliding locks and put it on the top of the door on our side so we can lock him in there and knock that on the head too.
This mean mummy doesn't like sleep problems lol |

wev tried the nightlight thing (the type you plug in) but he thought it was a toy! might try lights on then phase them off...

sorry can't help much with the sleep thing (Ella still wakes up during the night) BUT we do keep her door shut at night with no night light (she always asks for the room to be dark before we leave) and have done since she was around 3 months. i guess cos im a wimp im actually passing it on to my kids! im not so much scared of the dark but i CAN NOT sleep without some kind of light (apparently neither could my dad!) so i feel bad for making my boys sleep in the dark.....they could be like DH who cant only go to sleep in full dark!

well we did the door shut thing last night, i felt so bad everytime i got up to go lu! bcos i was so tempted to open his door and make sure he was warm but i knew that would wake him so i didnt!!....anyway he slept all night!!! even though he woke up at 6.30am bcos the blimmin dogs started barking right under his window!!!

| Yay go Astin! I think having the door shut is awesome, it's far less tempting for them. When the door is open it way too tempting for them to wanna get up and explore and see what else is going on. |

yup i assume he woke up as normal and saw the door shut and thought "ah well may as well go back to sleep"! lol... i shut his door for day naps and often here him busttle around then go back to sleep because he cant get out!...now to sort out the noisey dogs!!! - me thinks they will be back to spending nights in their kennels after they ate all my yukka plants last night!

*sigh* I'm glad it sorted out for you Amber but I was kinda hoping it was an age thing lol Jake cried from about 10 til 12.30 last night and only shutup when DP yelled at him he was totally putting it on but it didn't help our stress levels knowing that. He also sleeps with the door closed but hes been sleeping badly since he went away at the beginning of April and needed a nightlight since then too. Arrrghhh I hate losing sleep but since hes been sick over the past couple of weeks too its hard to find the balance between being firm and making sure hes ok!! -------------

well we failed last night....thanks to me being too soft!!! i said to Astin "come on honey say nite to dadda its bedtime"...he said goodnight while i went lu then when i got out i found he had made himself a bed on the floor of my room!! he even managed to drag the matress out from under bed!!!! and was furiously trying to act like he was asleep and when i said "what are you doing!?" he replied "luv u mummy, luv u"...........guess where he ended up sleeping!!???
In my defense though - we got home late last night and there is also a tummy bug going around our family so i was really worried that he would be throwing up in his bed and i couldnt hear him!! (i had a few panadol on board which makes me sleep heavier)......excuses excuses ay!
Bridie is Jake getting any teeth?? we had a feeling this might be Astins prob... |

I thought he was getting teeth but I'm not sure and don't really want to investigate lol I'm a softy too I hate letting him cry too long incase he throws up and chokes I need your firm streak Stace!! TBH he takes advantage of my softy-side which drives DP mental lol I've set DP on night-duty for the last coupla nights and the one time daddy went in things went quiet straight away!!!! Hes def starting to drop his daynap its ok but I still want him in his room for quiet time. We're having abit of a power-struggle ATM lol kids! -------------

the last time astin threw up (few months ago) he just grizzled and i yelled to him to go back to sleep but when he didnt shutup i went in and found him laying in a bed full of vomit!! i felt sooooooooooooooo bad

Yeah Amber I've done that I ignored him and then went in cross and poor baby had flooded his bed. That was the only time it smelt bad (he vomited sh*t! Seriously it had all come back up from his bowels and he'd thrown it up poor little guy!!!) though every other time you wouldn't have known. I'm working on being firmer though so hopefully we'll get to the point where I know that him crying is serious IYKWIM. -------------
