After having a missed mc in November last year i was cautiously optomistic this time after seeing a hb at 6weeks, but at my 11 week scan the hb had gone and there wasn't any growth so its another missed mc for me
I hope i make it to Tuesday so i can have a D&C after my traumatic mc last year, i really don't think i could cope with another one like that.
Anyway, I was just wondering for those who have had a couple of mc's and have had tests done for recurrent loss, what tests and can you self refer and to who?? I am in Auckland, i have health insurance but would have to say its gynae related.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Laura

Hey, so sorry. That doesnt seem fair to see heartbeat and everything, with my three mc they were never big enough to see the baby on the scan - just the pregnancy sac.
I see a specialist privately and claim on insurance for Gynie as you mentioned. I have found that he hasn't been charging me though. I was freaking out because after a year and three MC I hadn't seen a bill, when I insisted he give me one it was for $200.00!
A specialist will be able to do the paperwork for blood clotting tests, I think we paid $120 ish for that test to the lab. Then we did a genetic caryotype test each which he thought we might get charged for but we didnt which was great. In the end I was diagnosed with Luteal Phase Defect just based on the info I gave him about cycle length and ovulation etc.
In all it hasn't been too expensive and it meant I didnt have to wait for the third MC to be referred to the hospital clinic. I don't know if you can just show up at pathology and ask for the tests yourself - I doubt it though.
Hope that was helpful

Hi Laura
I've also had 2 missed m/c's ( at 5 & 7 wks) so know how you're feeling Sending you big hugs and lots of positive thoughts.
We've been toying with the idea of getting tests done and have had people recommend the Auckland Obstetric Clinic (in Parnell) and Fertility Associates (Greenlane).
We actually made an appt at Fertility Associates but cancelled - mainly because we couldn't get an appt till mid-May and then I think you have to stop TTC while they run the tests so we decided to keep trying and see what happens. Sounds a bit like russian roulette I know, but I keep trying to think positive and our doc says the risk of having a 3rd m/c is no higher now than before we had the 1st........just hope he's right!!!!!!
Not sure how much the tests costs or what's involved but I'm sure there are others on here who have been down that route and can help you.
Here's hoping we both get sticky beans next time

I had the tests after my 3rd m/c - I was eligible to go public, but the waiting list was huge (almost a year) so we paid to go private (and be seen within 6 weeks). I paid for the consultation ($180) which included all the blood tests (and there were a LOT - 9 vials of blood) including the caryotype one, and DH had to have the caryotype and one other which I can't remember. I also had to have a mid-cycle ultrasound ($175) to check my uterus lining and the shape of my uterus, to see that there wasn't anything untoward. I also had day 2 and day 21 bloods. We did have to stop TTC for the month we had all the tests (as a pregnancy would skew the results of course, plus not give us time to take action).
My tests came back fine, although I am low in progesterone - which explains my m/c which are early. For this pg, I was on progesterone pessaries up till week 10 which seem to have done their job
My GP just sent a referral through to the specialist (she only does private consultations) and it went from there - I rang and made the appt before he'd sent the referral through, but the referral is important because it includes all of the medical details that they need to get a sense of your history.
Good luck!

Hey Kicker,
I feel your pain hun & am so sorry to hear of your losses
I had my 2nd m/c last week.
Although it was 8 years since my last one it apparently makes no difference.
My first m/c was at 6 1/2 wks & my second at 6 wks.
Right now I am going through the whole self doubt thing & it really, really sucks.
I really am trying to convince myself to have another go but don't know if I could go through it all again.
I was thinking of going to see my gynae, who is also a fertility specilaist but am afraid that he may send me away & say to come back if I have a 3rd m/c.
The Dr in the hospital said they don't get concerned until after 3 losses, so I don't know??????

Thanks again, i ended up back in hospital this weekend due to the bleeding hugely increasing after it had just about stopped, they think there was some retained product and now have an infection to add to it all.
They are also waiting for the test results to come back as they are ? a partial molar...
Urgh, it was supposed to be simpler this time around. And the food is still crap at the hospital!!!

Thanks Bunny.
Luckily (in some ways!) the chromosome analysis came back as normal. I have a gp appt on tuesday to discuss where we go from here.
I managed to get AF exactly 4 weeks after D&C and think i am ready to TTC again, I am just not going to think about another loss and try to be positive.

auckland used to have the recurrent miscarriage clinic and you could get referred after 3 mc's. but i am not sure it is still running. it was run out of the same place as the fertility clinic tho back in 04/05. Think your GP should be able to refer you it is still in operation.
