So your due in december is that right? im due in december too and live in chch. I went with midwives on barrington - had them with my first and will have them again with my second. i had kelly but she doesnt take any clients in december so will probably go with jo this time. They are all lovely there and i was very happy with how i was treated (im a young mum and have been treated quite rudely by some profesionals). Barrington isnt too far from the CBD - not that anything is really. Good luck on your search. PM if youd like their details.

Anne Parker at birthcare was awesome (above the carlton pub on bealey ave / papanui rd) She didnt deliver josh because i moved town but she was awesome the 8 months she was my midwife. She can book up quickly.

Depends on what kind of pregnancy/labour/birth you want!

It's probably difficult to know now, but for me I tried ringing Midwives on Bealey to start with but they don't birth at Burwood which I wanted the option of doing. Luckily now I'm almost due I have decided to definitely go to Burwood and am glad to have the choice! I'm with Pregnancy Matters who actually share their "rooms" with the Barrington midwives and have found them to be great so far but I imagine the biggest test is yet to come Whoever you choose make sure that they can accomodate any future decisions you may make (eg. birthing at a birthing unit, water birth, home birth, drug-free approach, lots-of-drugs-approach!). Good luck and congrats

Sorry I can't help you but I did want to recommend Merivale Midwives. I had Barb Harwood but she is due to go on four months leave. I have heard good things about all the Midwives from there.

Good luck, and you will need to get in early if you do decide on Merivale as they fill up fairly quickly.

Im another fan of Merivale Midwives - they are a fantastic team, I have Adrienne Hill (who is away at the moment) so Liz is looking after me until she returns - and she is great as well!!

They do book up really fast so you might want to start ringing around. I got a list off my GP of recommended midwives which helped a bit - but I had a friend who had Adrienne so that swayed my decision!

I've gone with Bronwyn Carpenter - she is part of a group called Midwifery Colleagues (think that's what they're called) so they have back up people.

I am due in Nov and have had 2 visits so far and found her to be great. She explains things really well and I feel comfortable with her. I also had a chickenpox scare and she was very onto it when I needed help with that.

She's in Cashmere though so might be a bit out of the way for you??

From what ive heard most midwives in chch book up fairly fast. The way i chose mine was i picked the practice closest to where i lived (a block away) went there they sent me phylosophy - i had no problems with it - went to meet the midwife and loved her. If i hadnt i would have tried somewhere else. Different people love different midwives. Some really like laid back while others freek out that they arent doing there job, Id go round and meet a few

Domino Midwives are really great as well, my midwife is Marion and her backup Karen is also awesome!
They are based in Worcester St.

Good luck with finding a midwife - ring around quickly as already they're filling up!

I went to Merivale Midwives as well My sister had Adrienne twice and highly recommended her but she was fully booked when I went so I ended up with Wendy who I would not recommend. She over books herself and was hardly available to me. I was a high risk pregnancy with twins so I was highly dissapointed with her. Also I believe Liz is only taking repeats clients so you may not get her, but I would highly recommend Adrienne, Hazel seemed nice as well.

Hi, I am also new to OHbaby, due at the end of June with my first. I have gone with Jo from Midwives on Barrington, they are great! Really encouraging and professional.

But as Angel4 says, go with someone you feel comfortable with. Shop around a wee bit. as such.

Good luck!
