How much water does your preschooler drink? The RDI is apparently the same for children as for adults but these guys just seem rarely thirsty... when they do drink water, it's usually just a mouthful not a cupful at a time. I'm not sure that they would even drink a litre per day (each) and this was basically the case over summer too.

Are they getting enough? Are other kids in this boat?

I read or heard something sometime ( I know it was on soem program about whats good for us) where they looked into the "8 glasses of water a day" theory and the crux of it was that the amount you need is dependant on your weight and also how many calories you eat and how much water is in food...or something like that.  I remember that if you eat a healthy diet you get a lot of water from the food so dont have to drink as much but if your diet is full of junk food etc you need to drink more.

Something like that.

Yeah I saw a thing, maybe on 60mins? with a doc saying that they have no idea where the whole 8 glasses a day comes from and that we should just drink when we are thirsty and that will be enough.

Spencer only drinks about 300ml of water a day, that is what his sippy cup holds, rarely I have to refill it for him. He also has 200ml of formula first thing.

Leah will drink a couple of her drink bottles full a day, but she has always been good at drinking water...if she seems to start not wanting it I put a tiny bit of oj and top it up with water and tell her shes having juice, then everytime I make it I use less juice until its just water again. (my child responds well to bribary!!!)

Sometimes if they're dehydrated the thirst factor actually stops working. We started having drink bottles full of water sitting out on the breakfast br and they tend to drink them alot more than if they have to ask for them.... have a try and see how it goes. we have to restrain ayja otherwise she sometimes skulls back the whole bottle in one go!
