For various reasons we co-slept with our baby. He is now one, and I am ready for him to sleep in his own cot at night.
he naps in his cot during the day and this is fine, and will sleep in his cot until around midnight but after that it gets tricky. If he wakes I have been giving him a quick BF or cuddle and he goes straight back to sleep, if i put him in his cot he wakes about half an hour later really upset, and I do the same again, a quick cuddle or feed and put him back in his cot. But this goes on til the morning. Does anyone have any suggestions (besides controlled crying which doesn't work for us)? |

It may be a case of separation anxiety, have you tried something like putting one of your tshirts which smell like you in his cot or maybe introducing a cuddly toy that has your smell (sleep with it up your pj top for a few nights)?
Otherwise you could try "Sleeping like a baby" by Pinky McKay or "No Cry Sleep Solution" by Elizabeth Pantley. I have found both books really great and neither of them use Controlled crying. It has been a long time since I read "no Cry.." but I do now that Pinky McKay has a plan for changing sleep associations and I am pretty sure she covers co-sleeping - sorry would check my copy but I have lent it out Good luck ------------- Lindsey

Have you tried taking the side off the cot and putting the cot next to your bed as a stepping stone?

Does he have a teddy or another comfort item? We mostly co-sleeped with Dominic (no reasons and had no plans to either, he tricked us into it!! ) and transferring him to the cot was tricky but introducing a teddy bear made it heaps easier. Otherwise you just have to perservere and it will come right.
