Hey all,

I have read over the other threads in regards to this but wondered if anyone else had any tips.

My DS started full time DC about 2 weeks ago. The first week he was fine and didn't care when I left. The second week he happily ran to the gate etc but cried a wee bit when I left. Today he screamed/cried from the time I opened the car door to get him out. It was heartbreaking and i have been in tears every morning since that first week.

I pump up DC and talk to me about it, explain everything to him, talk about what he will do that day etc. He can't talk yet but understands instructions etc so think that explaining might help. I always sit and play with him when we get there. I always say goodbye to him etc.

I really need help on what to do (apart from resigning from work!).

Rhyley has been at his daycare (well its an in home carer) since I went back to work over a year ago and you know what - he still cries when I leave - especialy after the weekend. But as soon as I shut the door i can hear him stop - and when I pick him up he doesn't want to leave - even though he is very happy to see me. I wouldn't resign from you job though - as long as nothing is happening there he will be fine.

Ps congrats on the pregnancy

One thing that my daughters day care does really well (and they change it depending on the child) - is they either stand at the door with the child and wave bye to mum / dad as they leave to go to work, or they distract them with games after the goodbyes have been said to take their mind off the fact the mum / dad are leaving... If it is something you are really worried about talk to DC and ask if 1 teacher can be in charge of the transition in the morning so that DS can have someone else that they like and know well, instead of different teachers cuddling him on different mornings?

Hope this makes sense... PM me if you want any more tips...

My DC is lovely and they assure me it takes him about 5 mins to settle after I have left.

They wave bye thru the window (even thou his eyes are shut from screaming) and then distract him.

It is always the same lady and she is lovely with him.

I think just see how he goes over the next few weeks, it takes some kids a while to settle in properly - Arna has been at daycare for 4 years and she still clings to me and cries some mornings... its all a part of being a kid i guess!!

if you are concerned, ask them to take some pictures of him after you have gone. it might reassure you to see some pics of him playing and having fun (like he probably does). Does he have a carer "assigned" to him? talk to her (it is probably a her) - about what you can do to get him more settled. Part of their job is to reassure us parents. get them on board and at least while he is adjusting, you'll feel better.
