I started Cian on solids a week or so ago cause he was showing all the signs of being ready for it and he started out really well, not eating heaps but maybe 1-2 tspns each time.
Now in the last two days it seems like he's not interested anymore! He's still looking for food and takes the first mouthful eagerly, until he gets a taste of it and then it's lips tight shut and head turned away... 
It's the same flavour food as we started with (apple & mango / pumpkin & wild rice), so tried some other flavours - pears, kumara, avocado and he hates all of it! any suggestions? what did your kids love? ------------- Anita Mum to Cian (Aug 08), Josh (Jun 10) http://lilypie.com">

We started Michaela off on baby rice with breast milk (can be made with cooled boiled water or formula) and then moved to mashed banana's. Maybe offer him less variety of flavours and just perservere with the same foods for awhile (aren't you meant to wait 4 days before offering a new food anyway? Not really sure, it's been awhile since I weaned). Don't worry if he refuses a food, at 1-2 tspns per time he won't starve and from what I understand it's more about getting used to the texture rather than the flavour at this age. -------------

yeah - he's fine with the texture (all except the avo cause that was a little lumpy!)... i wondered if maybe he was still just getting used to the taste. maybe i should start fresh with baby rice for a week and go from there? ------------- Anita Mum to Cian (Aug 08), Josh (Jun 10) http://lilypie.com">

Michaela loved baby rice! Mashed banana's and apple sauce (seperately) were also a huge hit with her in the early days.
ETA: and she still loves banana's and apples now. DH and I can't leave the fruit bowl where she can reach it because she'd happily just eat fruit all day and be too full for her meals. -------------

I think it was only about a week and then we were also offering baby rice as well as mashed banana so she had a bit of continuity. -------------

My girl started on the traditional babyrice with EBM, then we moved onto pumpkin after about a week and a half. With any new food, I have to dull it down a bit by mixing it with rice or a food she already enjoys as a new taste can be a bit full on for her and she'll reject it if it's too strong a flavour.
Pumpkin is still her very favourite, followed closely by kumara and then banana (I can't feed her much banana as it makes her constipated). And her latest experiance was roast pork! Gave her a piece to suck on (big bit) and she sucked like mad for 5minutes then took a great big bite! ------------- http://www.babysfirstsite.com">

We started Joel on pears as that was all I had in the house. I never bought the baby rice but have got baby musli 9more texture) and thicken things with that. I give Joel all sorts of odd combos, he loves kumara and apple, and pumpkin and pear. -------------

| We started Dominic with babyrice mixed with bm and then stewed apples and stewed pears, mashed banana. The first time we introduce a new food we would put a little bm in so there was a familiarity about it and it would be quite runny. Maybe the foods you have offered are a bit thick for him? |

Well, I tried him with baby rice and EBM last night and it was a fight, but he did have some... then today I missed his morning solids cause we were running late for Playcentre!! but gave him some pears at lunchtime instead and he was eating like normal again... so I'm wondering if maybe he was just overtired when I was trying to feed him and he couldn't deal with it. ------------- Anita Mum to Cian (Aug 08), Josh (Jun 10) http://lilypie.com">
