Just wondering when your littlies moved to a big bed?  Tom is starting to work out how to undo the side of his cot

Isla has been climbing out of her cot for a few months now. We have the side down so its safe, but have not moved her into a bed yet. She is sleeping fine so I dont think she is cramped in there at all.

I moved Carys when she turned 2. She was never a climber so didnt need to worry about her climbing out of the cot. Then when she was in her big bed we just put a pillow under the fitted sheet towards the end of the bed (IYNWIM) and she only fell out once I think - no clue how she managed it, she must have been doing somersaults in her sleep, lol!

Around 2 years for both of ours.
Benjy was climbing out of his cot for ages before we swapped him over, I just left the side down so he could do it safely.

We have the big bed set up in his room witht he cot. He slept brilliantly at mums in a big bed so I thought if he protests about his cot I'll put him in the bed but its not something I'm going to push with him

Breanna was 2yrs 4mths when she went into a big bed, and it was only because we needed the cot for Ashlee, we had no problems tho.

Jake was about 22 months? He asked to "have a go", and has been in the big bed ever since

Charlotte is still in her cot, and will be for at LEAST another 6 months.

She has climbed out once, hurt herself and never done it again. Jake climbed out a few times, but discovered he couldn't get back in, so gave up. Plunket advised that if I wanted to leave him in his cot, I should put the side down so if he fell, it wouldn't be from a height, however, neither of mine like the side left down... woerdos.

Leah is still in the cot, we leave the side down but she hasn't climbed out yet, go figure, she would climb out when it was up. We also have a big bed in her room all made up for her and every few days I ask if she wants to sleep in it but she always asks for the cot.

We thought we might need to keep her in the cot for a while so we got a second cot for Joel, just as well as he is already out of the bassinet and into the cot.

We put Ollie into his bunk bed just before he turned 2 years old as we needed his cot for our baby who had outgrown the bassinette.

Maya was 20 mths, no particular reason I just felt like it and we'd been travelling for 2 mths so I figured she might as well come home to a new bed rather than get used to her cot again then change to a bed later. Had no problems at all.

Gremlins were 22 mths, they had started climbing out and nothing we could do would stop them, they even climbed out with their sleep sacks on. We had been having major sleep issues so figured we'd put them into beds then sort the sleep stuff rather than sort it then put them thru more upheaval later on. We still haven't sorted the sleep issues but the beds haven't been a big deal, they wouldn't stay in the cots so it's not like it made much difference.

Tom has just started showing signs that he can undo the latches.  We have a touchwood so its a 2 handed job but one of them is a bit funny and you can get one to go up, lift the side and then let go and do the other side.  We NEVER do this but Mum has been doing it while she was here as she has a sore shoulder and couldnt do both together.  Tom has seen this done about 3-4 times tops!!! And the little monkey is copying!!!!

I dont think its a biggie but it just occured to me that he will be 17 months when bubs is born and I am not sure whats the best timing to change to a bed.  Obviously not at the same time as a new baby, but what if bubs grows out of the bassinet fast?  I heard its not good to "force" them out of their cot for a sibling to take it over.  So do we do it before bubs....which is coming fast!

I think if there is no risk of frost this weekend (and there is overnight Friday - Frosts mean I lose DH in the middle of the night to go and protect the vineyard) we might try taking the side off his cot and see what happens.  Eek!!!  Do we really want a Tom that can get out of bed?????

What about a portacot as a temperary(sp) bed for bub if he/she grows fast?

Yeah, I thought of that but ours is a Phil and TEds one which is on the ground...no bassinet level (poor me).  I doubt bubs will grow that fast.  Tom is a little guy.  The only reason Tom didnt last long is because I tried him in his cot and he was happier.  This one wont get the option.
