Blake has a chest infection. Has had raging temps and generally unhappy ..not nice. USUALLY he has always loved his medicine..whatever shape and form it came in. Doc gave him Augmentin Medicine this time and he now wont take any whatsover..
Pamol, Brufen...nothing.
What do I do?
Can infections go on their own? But thats kind of useless really as still need him to take Pamol to keep fever down.
Any ideas?

Aww poor Blake
Jack had tonsilitis at the start of the year and refused everything. When I forced it down him it would come straight back up. So what I did was got a little carton of chocolate milk and syringed the medicine into that, shook it up and he would drink it all. I then bought a big container of milk and would syringe it back into the carton to use each medicine time. I also had a bit of pamol mixed in with most drinks I offered him.
Good luck

mix with spaghetti or yoghurt. both usually have a strong enough taste to disguise the medicinal flavour. i do this with both kids. so far all pharmacists have said not ideal, but safe

Wait until he is asleep and slowly syringe it in, has always worked for us.
You could also put something yummy into the syringe & let him syringe that into his mouth, then put medicine in next time.
Most infections will clear by themselves but I think you need to be careful with chest infections. Fevers are ok so long as he isn't convulsing a doc told us that if they have a fever but are happy and aren't in pain then we didn't need to give pamol but to keep a close eye on them. In saying that ds is always miserable with a fever & we always give him pamol.

Good luck.

With a chest infection yes he absolutely does need to take the antibiotics as if it's bacterial it won't clear on it's own and they can get really sick really quickly.
My girls love taking medicine, almost too much but Mum says when my sister was a baby and needed epilepsy meds daily mum used to make them into a milkshake so she'd take them, and when Sienna was tiny I used to add her kidney meds to her bottle. The only catch with that is that they need to take 100% of the dose so you need to make sure he drinks all the milkshake.

augmentin is quite harsh on there tummy and will affect them for a few weeks after stopping, make sure you give him lost of apodopolis (sp) yoghurt for the probotics or give probotics itself to help.
my dd had tonsilitis and put on abs but we didnt fishes them cause it was playing havoc with her tummy (she gets bad wind pains)

My son has been on AB's for re-occuring tonsilitis for 5 mths now, I normally mix it in with his milk. I also find I sometimes need to do the same for pamol & Brufen, so far it works just fine.

The only thing that worked to get Ashlyn to take ANY sort of medicine was to mix it with some chocolate ice cream, taste was strong enough to mask
