Andrew is at the stage when I think he can wipe his own butt when he goes to the toilet and does poos. How do I get him to do this and do it properly??

gabriel used to be able to do it then decided one day he didnt need to so we put a reward system in place in conjunction with the kindy and that fixed the problem. other things that helped was demonstrating to him while he was on the toilet, oh and i had my clothes on... and gentle reminders every time he had to go.

We told Charlotte to wipe front to back with a new bit of paper until the paper is clean (although, do boys have to do front to back?)- it meant while she was 'experimenting' she went through an awful lots of loo paper but now shes fine.

I tell my girls to "wipe the poos and then wipe the wees" (with separate pieces of paper). But I think that is more critical for girls than boys.

I'm not sure, Becks. Hannah just got to the stage where she refused to let us do it because she was a "big girl" - even though it wasn't always clean and we kind of had to let it go for the first little bit.

Yeah I get the call of "mummy wipe my bottom please" and it gets shouted at the top of his voice as well.

I like that idea Deb of you doing it first and then him doing it, I will try that thanks.

My Peter thinks he can wipe his own bottom so if I don't keep an eye on him he has filled up the toilet with paper (which has blocked it once!) I suppose it is good that he wants to be so independent but he sometimes gets it on his hands or uses too much paper! I don't know what to do about it I guess keep showing him and be patient!

My lachie calls out "finished mum" then i watch him take some paper and fold it in half, then fold it again then he wipes. He wipes between his legs then get more paper and does the same thing again till it wipes clean then i have a look then congratulate him...he is so proud of himself. he is three and a half...mind you DH is not coping with it so well...too much hassel he wants to do it himself and Lachie get stroppy with him...lol
