Rhiannon is happy to take herself to the toliet to do wees, (but still poos in a nappy), at home i leave her in undies all day and she has constant access to a potty or toliet......so thats fine
but what do i do with daycare (she is at someone elses house) and they go to playgroups etc so do i use pullups so she can take herself, do i leave her in nappies while at daycre, or do i put her in undies as well. so far all i have heard about pullups is that the kids think of them as nappies not undies so they dont really help what are your thoughts ? ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Michaela has always treated pullups as nappies and so she is in normal little knickers at home but when we go out I put her in cloth training pants, they just contain the mess a bit more so she and her clothes still get wet if she has an accident but she doesn't leave behind a puddle.
She's really good doing it this way. On Saturday at dance class (while she was wearing cloth training pants) she came running over to me saying "wees" so we rushed off to the toilet and she went there whereas when we went up to hunterville for the day I used pullups on her and she went in them all day without mentioning it and then I had a couple of weeks of TTing issues afterwards. -------------

We briefly tried pullups with Ella but found them a waste of money. Like you said, she just thought of them as a different type of nappy and they didn't help with her TT at all.
I found it better to just pack lots of changes of knickers, pants and socks and take her out in knickers. Taking her to the toilets for a 'try' whenever we arrived somewhere was good too as then she wasn't shy about going if she needed to later. Good luck! ------------- Mel, Mummy to E: 6, B: 4 and:

That's a good idea Mel. Michaela does tend to have accidents at new places. Did you find that she got sick of being taken (or is that just my little rebel). Sorry for the TJ Kaz -------------

I have used pull-ups on Keira but I think it has been one of my down-falls. She constantly used them as a nappy and when she was in undies shed just keep going. Shes only just now toilet trained but it has taken me forever. I really dont see much difference in pull-upas and nappies, as she can take them both on and off herself, its more of a mindset thing.
With Keira once she was ready, she was ready and if she hadnt been wearing training pants we would have gone crazy with accidents every single time for months, it doesnt seem as bad going back to pullups than all the way back to nappies when we needed a break. I still havent been brave enough to take her out without pull-ups especially if theres not going to be a toilet always near by. It is slightly less of a worry, that I know we arent going to make a mess. We havent had any accidents in them yet as shes atcually able to hold on for a little bit but I guess for me its peace of mind. I think its hared for me to stop them than her 
She is now wearing pull-ups to bed because she thinks nappies are for babies, its a pain because nappies are so much cheaper. So any way after all that rambling... if it were me, Id keep her in pull-ups but then I woulndt expect the toilet training to progress as fast as if they were in undies. I guess I just wasnt in too much of a rush to get her TT and it has all worked out in its own time with out too much stress. Maybe seeing as its someone else looking after her, see what they would rather do, if they are all keen to be really persistant with TTing than just go for undies. -------------

Jo, she did get annoyed if I kept asking her if she needed to go so I got into the habit of saying I needed to go too, lol!
Luckily she never pulled me up on it, on the occasions when I didn't actually do wees

Honestly? I say bite the bullet and start her in undies, ask her constantly if she needs to go etc. Also, get her carers on board.
Char is fully TT and has been for ages and it was due to us just doing it, not worrying about the mess, I did a heap of washing for a couple of months but its worth it in the long run. We did the pull up thing only at night. She hasn't wet at night for weeks. I am going to try taking her out of night naps this weekend and see how we go. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Yep i agree with the others. Pull ups, are in my opinion a waste of money. HAve a chat to your caregiver, she will get on board, and send her in undies. It just gets confusing for them otherwise. ------------- The Honest Un PC Parent of 2, usually stuck in the naughty corner! :P |

I agree with everyone re pull ups, waste of money but I guess they work for some.
One of the best peices of advice i was given re toilet training is once you make the decision for knickers/undies dont keep changing back to nappies as it confuses the child. This totally worked for us. I used to leave a potty in my car for emergencies and made sure I asked Kobe every two seconds if he needed to go and pretty much just warned everyone what was going on just in case there were any accidents. I remember going to a 'friends' house and kobe had an accident and she brought out the discenfectint, boiling water, rubber gloves and everything made such a big deal about it I was so mad so after that I warned everyone and if they werent happy I just didnt go there. |
