For those of you are still b/feeding your toddler or who b/feed for a while when did you end up dropping down to 2 b/f a day? and when you did introduce normal cows milk to them and at what time of the day? Ella still has 3 b/f a day (morning,after lunch and evening) and I have given her a cows milk in a cup a couple of times but not on a regular basis. I would like to start doing this but have no idea when I should give it to her- logical choice would be after lunch, but I don't want to drop her midday bf just yet. We gave Michaela cows milk after lunch. It was convenient for us because I was working fulltime and only BFing in the morning and before bed. -------------

Caprece kinda dropped all day feeds herself, every now and then she has a day of drinking non stop from me but mainly its just 2 feeds. She gets a milo in the morning as well.
Why do you want to give her cows milk? If shes still having 3 breastfeeds then that should be enough milk for her. I'd wait til you were going to drop one before giving her cows milk daily. |

Caleb has a feed early morning, late afternoon then just before bed but this is because I'm at work during the day. Sometimes he has a bottle before bed but usually only if I'm out. Personally I'd keep up the three BF's a day with sips of water through the day. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I BF till she was 2 years and around 2 weeks, I guess i can't say when i cut down to 2 feeds, as i more or less cut down to 1 feed from around 10 feed (night as well) in around 2 weeks, and keeped the one feed going for about 2 months.
We still don't realy give cows milk, as such, she eats cheese and yogurt most of the time. I Guess in the end you need to desied how you feel about it, and what works best for you. What about you feeding her, then about an hour after that you give her cows milk, and just keep making the time closer and closer together till you want to drop that feed. OH GOSH....DD still needs the boobie at night before bed! I have tried many things to get her to stop but NO. She only wants it at night...she dropped to two feed just after 2 and then to one at 2.5 months may be??

I think down to just two feeds was after she was two. The more I tried to decrease the more she will slip feeds in. (still did demand feeding).
At about 28 months it was down to one feed and since 5 days ago she is basically stopped herself. She had cowsmilk on porridge and then before bedtime before she had boobs and when I got rid of that nightime feed she just had her hot milk. thanks for the replies. Might just keep up with what we are doing and give her a bit of cows milk everynow and then. Plunket told me that she should be down to 2 feeds when she turns 1....but I don't see that happening anytime soon, so it's nice to know other toddlers do this as well. ------------- Mum to Ella (5) and Tom (2) |

Michaela's only just gone down to two milk servings per day and she still has at least one of them in a bottle (plus she gets milk on cereal and in cooking). As long as she is a happy healthy child and her milk intake doesn't interfere with her food intake I wouldn't worry. -------------
