I have a 2 1/2 year old lil monster and was wondering if its completely normal or something i have to prevent somehow.
While i am feeding miss 8weeks he takes the opportunity to run outside and get up to mischief.
Just yesterday alone i found him in the chicken coop eating their food, drinking out of dirty puddles, digging up my veg garden, eating leaves and burying his toys. He went through 4 changes of clothes till i said enough was enough and put him in the shower. He has a cold too.
I have tried entertaining him while feeding but its impossible to keep him in 1 place and its too cold to take bub outside to feed.
Anyone have any tips??

Sorry, I was going to suggest that maybe he was trying to get attention sisnce you were with baby and to maybe read to him or something while you feed, but if he won't sit still......

Good luck!

hehehe yep id say all boys do it. I only have the one child but he can be a handful at the best of times.....i have caught him eating the dog roll...much to my disgust. I think they are just learning and exploring...but they do need boundaries......

Maybe you could play games with him while you a feeding your other baby...puzzles or blocks...something to that effect...

You have all my sympathies, not because I've been there (I haven't yet) but because I'm wondering what on earth I'll do with my 2-yr old when I'm stuck on the couch feeding a newborn too! It's not just boys, Ella likes the same sort of trouble, even down to eating the catfood (while making sure all her soft toys get some too ), torturing the cats, sucking on gravel from the drive and pulling out my flowers (the plants, not just the flowers) from the garden.

That sounds like normal toddler behaviour to me.  My darling princess is inquisitive too and their wonderful insatiable curiosity can seem very mischievious can't it?  It's all about learning though.  No doubt your lovely wee man has now learnt that mud puddles, chicken food and dead leaves don't taste very good.

LOL, girl gross is when she's two and thinks she can pee standing up like daddy and gets it everywhere except the potty or when you don't notice she's gone wees and therefore don't provide the expected praise so she gets angry and throws a full potty across the room.

Ah kids..... I love them!!  (repeat 20 times as and when necessary)

It only happened once (a couple of months ago) and it was our fault for not believing her - we've never made that mistake again.

LOL Bizzy I don't like potty's either but Michaela wanted to be a "big girl" during the middle of winter and refused to go in the toilet and I think being so cold in there didn't help so it was a temporary evil.  Now she's got the hang of it she goes on the "big girl" toilet (and daddy's shown her that he sits down too)

Hahahaahaa thankyou all for your stories! its good to know i am not alone. And no, he doesnt realize that puddles, leaves and mud are gross. he choses them over marshmallows! im trying to ignore it so its not the attention he wants and hopefully he will stop soon.
I have tried playing games while feeding but Aliana gets distracted too and stops feeding and his attention span wanes.
And our dog roll has taken more than a couple of bites too
I hope Aliana doesnt grow up so toadish but i have a feeling...

Jenna, maybe you could try having a box of toys or a dvd or drawing things that are only pulled out during feeding times and allocate a room in the house (with a door) that is used for feeding.  When Aliana is ready for a feed the 3 of you go into that room, close the door behind you and pull out the special toys for him to play with.

I am so laughing at some of the things these children have done. I have the same as Bizzy and a four year old that thinks its fun to pee almost anywhere outside.

But yes my 4 1/2 year old is very gross with some of the things he does.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
