K well went to the doctor and the doctor said that its either my hormones just aren't back in balance yet or that i could have some "retained products" after the D&C... What would be the liklyhood of stuff getting left behind? Is it worth getting the U/S (which i have to pay full cost for!) or just wait to see if my cycle normalises?

I would hope that they haven't left any behind, and that is dumb having to pay for a scan just to see if someone at the (i'm thing public) hopsital did. If it was public then they should be letting you have the scan at the public hospital.

Me; I would wait, I have lived with random bleeding all my live since getting AF so I jsut now ride it out.

Hannabil, there was a thread on the pregnancy board last week or the week before about a new clinic in Wellington that does free ultrasounds. I would go and get one just in case there were retained POC as that could cause an infection that could compromise your future infertility.

Hi Hannabil,

I didn't have a miscarriage but after delivering my daughter at 20 weeks, I bled/spotted constantly for 3 weeks. My GP suspected retained products, and I had a scan the next day at the hospital, so didn't have to pay for it. Unfortunately, it was retained products and I needed a D&C to remove this. The bleeding stopped immediately after I had this done.

Good luck, I hope you get this sorted soon.

Are they doing bloods? If you have retained pregnancy tissue (which can happen as it they do the procedure blind so that can never be 100% sure they have removed everything) than you would still have pg hormone production I would think even if only slight levels.... HCG would not have come down to 0 at least.

I would be asking for those to confirm, I would think your dr would be more concerned with the risk of infection if there is still tissue and dont think you should have to pay.

We have this fantastic free maternity care here, but what about when it goes wrong.. all of sudden you have to pay for everything that is now relating to that same pregnancy.

Good luck hun.

You would think by having the D&C that it would be all done so very frustrating. Sorry, can't help

Well lucky I went for a scan today - the sonar guy said it is likely that there are retained products
At least they picked it up before i got an infection or anything and hopefully the doctor says i can just take a pill to get rid of it.
Even tho it sucks i am soooo glad i went for a scan, i can get all cleaned and start again!

Glad you got it sorted out Hannahbil. I think it depends on the thickness of the products but I had to have a D&C to remove mine. Good luck and

It must depend on how much they see - I had a scan after natural MC and there was some 'uneveness' of the lining, apparently retained POC (horrible term!) but they said it should just get resolved on its own. Hopefully that's right!

Well ended up having another D&C on monday cos it was still linked to my blood supply (or something weird like that!)

Have decided with hubby that since we are still young and this has kinda frightened the sh*t out of us we will wait another 6-12months before trying again. Also stressed our marraige a bit which kinda leads again to not being ready right!?!
