My little man won't eat anything normal! That sounds odd, let me explain... He ate anything I gave him when he first started eating solids (about 10-11 months old) then when I started work again full time, we weren't getting home till about 6pm when he'd be starving, so being unprepared I gave him what was fast and easy (usually oven fries, chicken nibbles, fish fillets, spaghetti, pasta) now he is getting even fussier and will only eat either a sandwich, yoghurt, anything like a burger and fries if we are out shopping, spaghetti... He won't eat veges, won't touch anything that looks like a normal meal, eats well though, has multi vits mixed in with his morning milk so gets minerals and vitamins, good size and weight for his age as well. Do i do the starve him until he gives in routine, do I just keep producing normal meals and give him what he wants when he refuses, or do I just give him what he'll eat and he'll grow out of it... this is a constant worry for me....

I was always told a child won't starve themselves, but that philospohy is easier said then gone through with. I always provide my kids with the same thing we're eating even if I know they'll refuse it just to get them used to it on their plates and as part of their diet. After a few times of this same food being there they'll usually try it. When my kids go through a particuarly fussy stage we have a couple of backup meals to ensure they're getting what they need i.e pumpkin soup, vegetable fritters served with tomato sauce, spagetti bolognaise (with grated corgettes and carrots hiden in there also made with real tomatoes) this can also be made into meatballs and spaggetti.

I think at 2 1/2 you need to introduce the idea of eating with the family and eating family meals etc. So if the family is haivng sandwiches for lunch, so is he. And if you are all having bolognese for dinner, yup him too. Dish him a small serve of everything you are having and if he finishes what is on his plate, he can choose something next, or whichever is leftover of the meal to have.
