ok, so i am officially sick of taking kids to the doctors - tonight was the second time in 3 days that we have been, only this time for ayja and it was my fault!
Miss Ayja was asleep in her carseat when we got home, so i got her out of it, cradled her in my arms, and tried to hurry inside cos the wind was cold and i didn't want to wake her up or get her too cold. Clumsy me tripped and fell didn't i?! and well, with her in my arms there was no way to get my balance back, so now i have a huge bleeding graze on my knee, also right down the hand i tried to put out to stop us hitting the ground and on the back of the wrist of my other hand that was craddling ayja, and hello - after all that, we still hit the ground, i still fell on top of her and her head hit the concrete and skidded along it. so now, in EXACTLY the same spot as the huge haematoma was from her fall at 6 days old, she now has another huge big red egg, (actually i think it's bigger, and it's hard this time), and her head is all grazed and bleeding.
am officially over taking kids to the doctors...they're gonna set up a VIP carpark right outside for us soon.
am sick of being the one that drops Ayja (come on, how clumsy am i?! ... http://www.MyonlineImages.com">
am starting to wonder what people must think of me...
and i am afraid what is going to happen next! (i just might stay in bed tomorrow morning, just in case!)
grrr

Oh Janine what a time you are having!! Don't feel bad and no one thinks anything about you other than your a good mum. Accidents happen and it sounds like you managed to hurt yourself pretty well trying to save ayja. As the saying goes sh*t happens unfortunately it seems to happen to you. Your a good mum!!

i was carrying jack out of my room the other day (he was eating cat bikkies again) and smacked his head on the door frame! he burst into tears, a large red lump came up for all to see.
then that night i was carrying him into bed and smacked his head in the same spot almost on the door to his room!

mmmm hannah is quite familiar with door frames. more often than not i whack her head on them as i go through doors!
janine, honestly, i've given up counting the amount of times i have tripped when carrying hannah down or up stairs and it is by sheer luck that i have never actually fallen. (actually i did fall one on a slippery ramp, but again, sheer luck that hannah's head landed on my arm - but geez that was sore! lotsa grazes for me! and in front of all the passengers on the cable car )
hopefully you'll get a break in doctor visits. no one is judging you babe!!

Yeah, jake is lucky he eats lots of yohurt for strong healthy bones. I was "helping" him down the slide at playgroup today and he fell, hitting his head three times on the way down. it bled.
So Janine, yuo are by no means the only mum to hurt their kid accidently, just the only one who's owned up recenlty

Oh Janine...We dont think that you are bad mum ..these things happen.
When Zaara was 1 month old I was preparing her bath in our bathroom and opened the glass door thingie and forgot to close it....obviously after bath I turned around with her to get out...smack!!! She screamed I looked at her and she had a small red bump on her forehead.....I started to cry and phoned my mum crying my eyes out telling her what a bad mum I am...all the while Zaara stopped crying and was looking at me......she was fine....
Ayja will be fine and again you cant avoid these things......dont be so hard on your self!!

I must have missed this thread somehow...
I hope Miss Ayja is feeling better - and I know what you mean about the VIP carpark lol! Now I have a new Gp within walking distance and even then I sometimes wonder if I should just take my sleeping bag and camp out there
And if you're a bad Mum love, the rest of us must be shockers!

Hey ladies - she's fine, as usual - think we might start calling her crash cos she is constantly banging head lately anyway cos she is climbing stuff and falling heaps - before anyone can get to her!
her graze on her head is nearly gone - just a big icky looking scab there instead.
but otherwise, she's all good. thanks.

My 11month old fell down 14 stairs from our bedroom yesterday! We have a split level house and have 4 stair gaurds throughout except for the top of the stairs in our room where he is always supervised! (not very well obviously)
He knows not to go down them and it had become a bit of a game going to them and laughing at us when we said "no". We had however thought it was a good idea to use these stairs as a training ground for supervised teaching of going backwards down stairs. Anyway to cut a looonnng story short he got a bit too confident and tried to have a go by himself before I could get to him and off he went! THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD etc etc
Luckily when i reached him shaking in fear as to which limbs were going to be broken he cried gave me a huge hug and then started laughing and bouncing up and down............... And no lesson learn't as we went back up so i could finish getting getting dressed and he went straight back over to them!

Apparently when I was little I had constant egg like lumps on my head from banging it on things (and I would dare say having others bang it for me). I still hit my head a lot now - dunno why - but I'm ok!! Most of the time....

it bsounds awful, but i think if you protect your kids TOO much, they won't end uplearning stuff. Like someone said before, learning to go up and down steps. I mean, you want to protect them from serious harm, but i don't think a bump of the head, scratches or bruises are too bad. that said, I ahve a little boy, they look much better on boys than girls.

oooh Liz, we've had that - we forget just how damn tall Paris is getting - mike was amazed the other day that Paris could reach to put washing in the washing machine. (didn't tell him that she's been doing that for ages, i have her well trained!) when she could first reach the bench top he turned for a second, while we ere both in the kitchen, and she reached up and got the HUGE knife he had been using to cut cheese (aparently if you have to cut anything the only way to do it is to use the biggest kife in the house) and had left right on the edge of the bench- and she was holding it by the handle pretending to use it as a walking stick along the ground.
kids move so quickly - ayja gets into so much so quickly. I know when it's quiet, or she doesn't come when i call her, that i will find her doing something she's not supposed to.

Han can reach the edge of the bench and my sister and her boyfriend are yet to learn that you have to put EVERYTHING back from the edge. The amount of times that I have found Hannah reaching up with her hand and fishing around on the bench has freaked me out!

Mike usually goes spare at me if i use a normal sized knife to cut the cheese - he says i hack it - pedantic man likes the cheese block to be straight! what a weirdo.

Mike is not the only one out there who likes the cheese block to be straight, my partner tells me that I have to cut it after grating cheese because you cannot have little grate marks on the cheese blocks, or he makes me cut a bit off and grate that instead. Men!!

Oh Janine...I totally forgot to tell you guys....Zaara fell off the changing table last Friday. she did not roll off but pushed her self out of it. I bend down too grab her nappy from the box and she was on the floor on the other side...I freaked out and picked her up ....she screamed!!! I started to cry.....I was checking to see where is the bump or what did she break??? I could not see and the I called my mum ...I could not stop crying and telling her what a bad mum I am....mum said go and wash her face and see if you can see any thing...I was standing in the bathroom and talking to mum and Zaara was looking at herself in the mirror and smilling!!???
After all that and phoning the healthline ...she was fine...not even a bump...I could not understand how there was not even a scratch on her???? I had nightmares every night for 4 nights about her falling but she was back to her normal self with in mins.
Kids are strong huh??

LMAO at the men and Quinn's head shape in the wall. Sorry Quinn!
And Roksana, that's just the start, there will be plenty more falls where that came from! Especially when she starts climbing. Han fell off her chair tonight and smacked her head on the solid wood chest the lounge. Was not a happy kid for about 5 minutes until she forgot about it and was distracted by the frozen corn again.

Jake tripped over in the bar at Wellington train station (waiting for my dad). He screamed and his nose bled. my step-sister was ready to call the bloody air-ambulance out for him. I knew he'd be fine though. I think I'm pretty erlaxed about the whole thing. the only time was freaked out was when Taine was three days old and Jake sat on him. He winded him quite badly and taine was struggling to breathe. I thought he may have broken a rib and punctured a lung. ick ick ick.
Although must admit, letting Jake go off and play, I always see him slipping and breaking teeth. Don't know why, but breaking teeth freak me out. When my dad collapsed (cardiac arrest), he broke his teeth and was classy and gappy for several months. ick ick ick
