My boys have been really fussy with eating meat lately and its driving me nuts. Tongiht I made homemade yummy meat patties with homemade chips and beetroot, tomato, cucmber and abit of cheese. My boys ate some chips, a little cheese the tomatoes and the beetroot and wouldnt even look at the meat yet a month ago it was the first thng they would eat.
I know its all good they are eating their vegies but I really want to know they are getting a good amount of iron. I know the milk they have has it but I think they need it from meat too.
So anyone have any super ides for me....please

have you thought of doing kebabs or a quiche with some ham or cooked lamb/beef - got a good recipe for that.
Arna hates eating meat and will only eat lasange or quiche at the mo (meat wise). You can add lots of veges to both so they are getting a balanced meal.
Hope this helps a bit

my boy wont eat meat either, my mum says that kids dont really like meat (despite the mince advert) so i just offer it and hope for the best. occasionally he will accidentally eat the mince when we have spag bol or meat balls with spaghetti. i know a lot of cereals have iron in them so maybe concentrate on other areas for their iron intake.

I never use to eat meat until I was 16, I did not like the taste and when my mum tried to get me to eat it, she said it just rolled around in my mouth for hours.

The quiche recipe :
Self-crusting Quiche
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Serves: 4 - 5
Ingredients
1 onion, finely chopped
3 bacon rashers, chopped
2 tsp butter
4 eggs
1 cup milk
1 packet MAGGI Parsley Sauce Mix
1/2 cup plain flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup bran flakes, (optional)
1 cup grated cheese
Method
Preheat the oven to 200°C. Grease a 20cm square metal baking pan.
Put the onion, bacon and butter in a microwave jug. Cover with waxed paper. Microwave on High for 2 minutes. Alternatively, place ingredients in a frying pan and saute over medium heat for 2 minutes.
Using a fork, whisk the eggs until the yolks and whites are combined. Add the milk and whisk well. Whisk in the sauce mix, flour, baking powder and bran, if used.
Stir in the bacon mixture and grated cheese. Pour into the baking pan.
Cook in the preheated oven for 20-30 minutes or until the centre of the quiche is firm when you test it with a knife.
Serve with a tossed green salad.
I usually add brocoli, mixed veges etc in as well and some mince or beef.
Just had another idea, if you get chicken mince or beef mince (real fine stuff) and get cookie cutters and get the boys to help you make shapes with them, cook them on the frypan and then serve them up... might make it interesting for them? And maybe those smiley faces hash brown things and have a "shapes" night... (if you do this idea prepare the mince like your going to make meatballs - otherwise they will fall apart!!)

Hi ya,
My boy who's 2 will only eat vegies, so I dish up meat only on his plate while he's hungry.
When he's finished picking at the meat I'll add the vegies and mix all up. I've noticed when it's all mixed up he'll spoon up a mixture of vegies and meat.
If your worried about iron, there is a really good suppliment you can buy for our fussy eaters, I started Rico last month and have noticed a difference already.
Cheers
Sue

And it is so incredibly easy!! I recommend you do it the recipe way the first time (but add veges in it) then you can change how you do it!! Also those cake tins that the sides come off (cant remember what they are called) are really really good, take the sides off and you have non-stick yummy quiche!!
Also with kebabs if you do say a bbq marinade on the meat, have a sauce that "compliments" it, might be messy but if they dip and eat then they getting iron!!

I used to boil rice in a pot with silverbeet then drain it and take the silverbeet out - some of the iron is absorbed into the rice, but she couldn't tase the difference.
Maya isn't a big meat eater, but loves pieces of chicken breast which she sips in sauce. She also has an obsession with 'bones' (chops, bacon bones, chicken drumsticks, anything on a bone), she loves to chew on them. I could never get her to eat pieces of lamb for example, but she loves chewing on a lamb chop.

My mate and I were on such a high and we danced and danced. There was such a wide range of folk there too front the real staight laced looking kind to the stoners (might i add were fragrancing the air with there spec herbs lol) to young 18 year olds. It was brilliant!
Anyways tried some chicken kebabs tonight for tea and were a hugh hit with the boys so am stoked about that. They thought they were so cool eating off a stick lol. It was pretty cute too
