Isla cries herself to sleep every night and every nap. Between 5-15mins.
Any one elses toddler do this? Any tips for a more peaceful bedtime for all of us!

We had a run of this recently, and the only thing that seems to be helping is a bit of a change to our DD's usual routine. Now we make sure that we give her about 5 mins warning that it will be "bedtime soon", then turn the tv off 5 mins later and say "ok bedtime now". Next step is brushing her teeth, then making sure she has a clean night nappy on, tucking her in to bed and reading her a story (both DH and I share the reading). We used to do this but were really inconsistent, so the repetition might have something to do with it. Good luck!

Just realised I forgot about naps, she still cries a little bit for those, but it's not distressed crying - usually more of an emphasis on how tired she actually is!

Yeah Isla seems to go down better in the day than at night. She has always cried herself to sleep, but when I wasnt well about 2 months ago I let her go down with a bottle and it was soo much nicer. We have just had to stop this this weekend tho, cos she has been waking and screaming until I go put the bottle in her mouth and tuck her in again,..about 3-6 times a night.

Thanks for the routine tips! She is still in a cot, but we could sit on the floor next to her cot and read her a story. We usually do this in the lounge but she doesnt sit still!

Maybe it is just because she is still getting used to not having the bottle. It might be better in another week or so.
Do you have a wee musical box you could play in her room for a couple of minutes when she first gets in to bed?

Katie Isla has always cried herself to sleep, but has only been going to bed with bottle about 2 months. I was having a bad time and I let her have the bottle cos it was easier on me having her go to bed peacefully.

Thanks Pearls for the rountine info. Have altered our routine the last 2 nights. After Isla's bath we now take her straight into her room, dress her there, offer her milk in cup, and read stories. We keep warning her its bedtime soon. Shes been a lot grizzlier after her bath, but I suspect this is more due to the fact that we had been giving her the bottle as soon as she got out of the bath. She used to hate getting dressed after bath, but the bottle helped. Just need to distract her in other ways.

Shes still crying to sleep, but hopefully it will improve soon!

Ooh you just gave me an idea Kellz, was trying to think of how to include a bedtime story in their routine, I could sit on the floor in between their cots! Thanks!

As for peaceful bedtimes, it's hit and miss here but daytime sleeps are usually more of a mission than night time, they tend to protest more during the day, not always crying but stalling tactics like calling out, throwing their toys out, taking their clothes off, opening the curtains etc.....

Just had another thought, we have also put on the same CD at night for our since she was a couple of weeks old and it seems to work really well for her as a sleep cue (whether or not she goes to sleep though is another thing!).

MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH!!! Isla went to bed tonight without any drama,...none of the usual 15-20 min screaming. We are in shock! NEVER before has she not cried herself to sleep (well except for the 2 months we let her go down with a bottle),...so Wooo Hooo!!

Sorta makes up for the crap day we had today,..and the throwing the nice dinner I made her on the ground, and having to make her diff food
