Oh my god im so sick of Rhiannon taking a toy out and not putting it away, that i asked her 5 times to pick her toys up in her room and i kept getting "no no no", so i said to her "if i have to pick your toys up im putting them in the rubbis"....she just looked at me and picked up a toy and threw it across the room.

so i went and got a rubbish bag, started putting all her toys in it...she ran out the room crying, once i finished picking up all the toys i took the bag into the lounge and there she was picking up all her toys going "mine mummy, pick up no"...i have put the rubbish bag of toys outside the front door, and will bring them back in tonight when she is asleep...but i think she has the message now...lol

Maybe pack up several toys so there is a small box worth only left available. The other ones aren't going in the rubbish, just for a break. Put them high in a cupboard one time she is asleep. That way you will find the toys you have available are far easier to manage in terms of tidiness and you can swap them or gradually increase them in time.

I've done that and Andrew didn't get them back for a few days. He learnt his lesson.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I am sooo sick of the arguments too and am so tired, I just give up and clean up the mess myself. I usually find that once I start it actually kicks DH and DD off the couch and they help me too. Kind of reverse psychology.

My sister puts my nieces toys into time out! They stay there for days on end but it seems to do the trick.

I'm like you CuriousG I usually just start cleaning myself but make sure I look and sound like I'm having a ball doing it and Michaela usually wants to join in. We also seriously limited the amount of toys available to play with otherwise the mess gets to big and daunting.

Heh _ remember having all my toys put in a rubbish bag when I was little. I had to earn them back by being good before rubbish day, or they went out! I think I got everything back... I was a bit older than Rhiannon though.

r.e the reverse psychologything, GREAT idea, how I got Jake into cleaning up (but it dosen't always work, he is only 2) is I pick them up and go OVERBOARD going "good girl, mummy, what a good job you are doing tidying up, good girl" etc etc, he hates it and will come and take out the toys I have put away, so he can put them away himself (no, mama, my do it) and get the praise.

Joshua has learnt putting things away at Daycare, and now he happily does it. But then we have other issues, such as food throwing....
