Hi there,

I'm a total newbie at this so go easy on me please!

My husband and I have basically been told we have 5% chance of conceiving naturally due to his sperm being mostly abnormal etc.

Now, we haven't even beeb to a specialist or any of that yet, I just want to get an idea of what is involved with IVF, if we decide to go down that path....

Also, the cost factor.... I was told the first cycle is free, is this correct?
If not, does anyone know how much approx it costs each time?

I'm sorry, I know this is a sensitive subject for some so I apologise if I offend anyone in any way with my questions.

Any answers would be appreciated!

Thanks ladies,

:)

Hi parki welcome to OB!

There are a few ladies on here that have been through IVF or are waiting to do it that might be able to answer your question a bit better than i can, but this is waht i understand the system to be: There is a points system that they do to see if you qualify for public funded IVF and if you do fit into that catagory then they put you on the wait list and you will get funded for 2 public IVF cycles, but you can choose to go privatly for a cost of about $10,000 per cycle. Please anyone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

And parki i'm sorry it has had to come to IVF for you, has your GP done a referral to the public fertility clinic for you?

Hi Parki
Welcome to Ohbaby - you will get lots of support here and as Noodle said there are some ladies who will have great knowledge to help you out. Definately check if you have been referred to the public fertility clinic as the sooner you get referred the sooner you will see them. Waiting lists can be long depending where you live.

I went to a free seminar run by Fertility Associates who had some really informative info on infertility and IVF. The doctors run it so you can ask them questions. You could ring them and see when the next seminar is as they usually have limited numbers.

All the best
