I'm going to choose to inject. faster, and less of a chance of baby spitting it out. it's an important part of the birthing process - esp if there is a problem and the vit k is vital. ------------- Joshua Hadynn - Born 3 May 2006 |

Arna had her's injected. She wasn't breathing at birth and put Vit K in as well as adrenniline i think... Not too sure will have to look up the labour charts... But she did have inj... ------------- http://www.snugglepie.com">

With Paige she didn't have it we didn't think she needed it , but Blake did he had a very bruised head due to being posterior and induced, he had the injection they did it straight away,they didn't ask but he needed it.

I had the same prob when I was pregnant and asked the girls what they did, I will try and find the post and bump it.
In the end we gave it orally and had stated in our birth plan that we would inject if it was a difficult/traumatic birth. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

| I was really unsure when my midwife asked me what we want done as we were never asked or told about it when Chloe was born. The main difference that I read is that although the same dose is given it is more effective given as an injection as the full amount is absorbed into the baby system. When given orally some of it will simply pass through their system. If bubs is being breast fed they get some vit k from the milk anyway. We have chosen to inject because I asked the midwife and thats what she recomended. My midwife gave me a very informative booklet about all the research done and we found that very helpful, it might be worth asking yours for one. |

I'm not sure if this is everywhere or just in Hamilton, but with both my kids I was told that to give vit K orally would require a prescription as its 3 doses over a week.
I have a hereditary blood disorder which means I bruise really easily, and there's a 50/50 chance my children can get it, so I chose to give both my kids the vit K injection for the extra boost to their systems incase they have inherited my von Willebrands. ------------- Becca, mum of 2 girls & 3 boys |
