Hmm, just wondering if things are starting to happen. Have been getting a lot of period type crampy pains low down in my tum, and HEAPS of braxton hicks (well tightening that isnt painful or regular so I assume its BH). Am 38 weeks today and Doc thinks I will be early-ish. Bubs has dropped a bit too, needs to go lots further tho! Have also had a bit of an upset stomach. Do you think everything is getting ready for labour? Hope so

Hope it is, but then again it could still hang around in there for weeks yet! I have been trying to stay really busy - went for a walk and have done housework and baking to try and encourage it out! Am trying to tempt Murphys Law and have made lots of plans for next week, hoping to have to cancel them all!!

Yesterday my midwife told that the period painish cramps are a sign of the cervix softening so hopefully this means you will get to meet your baby soon I remember with my first baby I had the same symptoms as you are experiencing then the next day I got to meet my little girl. The best thing I found to help my labour progress was power walking aroud the block. It might work for but make sure you take a phone with you! Goodluck!!

I had the upset tummy and period type pains the day before I went into labour with Maya at 38 weeks. So bubs could definitely be here soon!

i had heaps of braxton hicks with paris the night before... with Ayja i just had this weird weird feeling all the day before, but still went out and about and got every last little thing done! YaY Aimee, here's hoping it all gets going for you. keep active, yes, but also, get some rest if you can... you'll need it for labour. sounds like things should be getting going real soon for you.

oooh i love this part.. all the waiting for you to go into labour so we can hear about bubs and you!

sounds like they could be early labour pains. My labour pains with Alyssa were all in my back so didnt have that. But with Jayde my pains started off as little niggles like that and only got really bad and in my back 2 hours before i had her.

The advantage of a long night is a baby born at a convenient time of day! Of course, the disadvantage is a tired mum from being up all night!

You could always do what I did: during my transition period with Kiya I told everyone I was going to sleep, and to wake me when it was over, then I had a nap for 10 minutes!

They were about 15-20 mins apart and kinda like moderate period pain, not overly painful. But have become irregular now I was so excited now feel depressed cos everything has slowed down.

You never know your body could just be warming up so when you do go into labour it might make for a shorter labour. Hang in there it won't be too far away.

I've been having irregular contractions all day, they have been around 10 15 and 30 minutes a part but aren't painful just uncomfortable and seem to be slowing down again. It's sooo frustrating I hate waiting and I'm not due for another 12days!!

Well its not niggles anymore!!

I woke up at about 1am and felt a pop in my tummy, I got up to check and my waters broke with a gush! Contractions are getting stronger and around every 3-4 mins for about a minute - want to stay at home for as long as poss tho, and am managing fine for now. Am just roaming around the house now - too uncomfortable to stay in bed, checking I have everything in my bag! Am so excited but scared of the unknown as well!

Well, I will probably get Daniel to quickly update you once bubs is here, cos I'll be in hospital for a few days. Good luck to the rest of you due in the next few days and Bonnie!!

Oops, its a bit big! Need to change my ticker too!

I have just home from the hospital today with my little girl, and she is just beautiful!! She is such a good little girl - sleeping and feeding really well. She has heaps of black hair and I just cant stop looking at her!

Well, as you all know my waters broke at about 1am on Saturday morning. I was getting regular contractions (I thought they were painful! ha ha!!) and at 5am we met the midwife at the hospital to find out I was only 1cm dilated - was very gutted! Came home and hopped in the bath for a bit. Contractions were starting to get really painful and closer together and I was quite tired (had very little sleep in the few nights before with Daniels mum being so sick and niggles in the night). Went back to the hospital at 7am and was 2cm. M/w gave me some pethidine so I could rest and managed to sleep for a while but contractions became even stronger so m/w called the doctor. At 11am I was finally 4cm and officially in established labour! They put me in the spa bath and gave me gas - which I think I overdid (love it!). I cannot believe how intense the contractions were and in the end I was totally out of it. They got me out of the bath, gave me more pethidine and I had to hold off from pushing for a short time. I think I was pushing for about an hour (was having trouble working out which direction to push, ending up asking to stand cos I felt I was pushing uphill lying down) and after lots of screaming (felt so out of control it was scary) Hannah was finally born! I was feeling really negative about the whole labour and birth afterwards so spoke to the Doctor. She said that all up I was in established labour for about 4 hours or so, which is quite fast so my body didnt have time to cope with the pain and why I was feeling so out of control. Feel a lot better about the whole experience now, but still dont want to do that again in a hurry - worried next time would be even faster!! All that matters is I've got my precious little girl and as soon as she was out all was forgotten (kind of anyway!!)

Sorry, a bit of a novel

oooo I didn't realise exactly how brilliant your taste in names was!!! She doesn't have the last name Whyte by any chance does she? Now that'd be freaky.

I understand how you feel about the birth. I didn't feel fantastic about my effort either. Wish I'd listened to my body a bit more. Anyway... I'm starting to look forward to my next chance so I can improve my birthing techniques! hehehe Took a while to get to this point tho. And still a bit petrified.

Anyway, well done Aimee... she's gorgeous!

Aw she's so gorgeous!

I definately know what you mean as well about the fast labour and feeling out of control - paris's 5 hour was better than ayja's 3 and half hour one.. paris i was nice and quiet - and well ayja, i was screaming as i was pushing too - it took my midwife to tell me to stop screaming and concentrate.. and even then i still made enough noise that the lady in the room next door to me knew when i had finally had her! take the chance to talk it through with your midwife etc until you are sure you feel ok about it - they are right though - so much pain so quickly is really horrible - don't worry about the second time round though - even though it may be quicker - having been through it the first time - you seem to bounce a bit better and psych yourself up more. for now just enjoy your baby girl - you did well!

Yep! Though spelt Elisabeth. It's my middle name too.
I think it was my great-great-grandmas name (Actually can't remember how many greats but you get the picture!)

That's nice that you named her after her nana. Will be something special later on. I like my name for that reason

Posted By: daikini
Date Posted: 27 October 2005 at 8:09pm
My middle name is Mary which was my great-great-grandmother's middle name. It is also Kiya's middle name, and she thinks that it is special. Josiah has Phillip as his middle name, same as Nathaniel, which Nathaniel likes.

Going slightly over-the-top in naming your children after yourself: Nat's brother Michael and his wife Sarah named their first child (a girl) Michal after her dad. My BIL is now known as Mike to prevent confusion.
When their second child (a boy) was born, Sarah gave him the same middle names as Mike, so his full name is Ezekiel David Vaughn.

Sophie has my first name as her middle name.  If the next one is a boy it will have Kerry as his middle name.  It's a bit of a tradition on Kerry's side.  Kerry's middle name is his dad's first name and it's the smae for his dad.  If the next one is a girl she will proberly have Margaret as her middle name.  It was both my Mother's and my Grandma's (Dad's side) first name as well as Kerry's Nanna's first name.  So I think it covers all bases

We are finding it so hard trying to pick names because we want to keep both sides of the family happy by using a family middle name. My middle name is ella which I really like and it's my nana's first name but it doesn't really go with some of the first names we like. If it's a boy we like the name William(Wil for short) but Josh's family middle name is Alexander which I do like but because the last name is Ryder then the first letters of his names would spell WAR. Am I being too picky with chosing names?

I'm not sure if it's just my hormones or what it is but I seem to be worrying about absolutly everything! I'm worry that Chloe will feel left out when the baby comes or that because I'm sore I'm not playing with Chloe as much as I usually do. Not to mention all the worries about labour and birth or something being wrong with bubs. I'm turning into a paranoid wreak at the moment which is not like me at all usually.

I was super duper paranoid a few days ago, i had to days of just worrying about baby, wondering if it was okay in there, it just seems so long between midwife appointments at the moment! I have dumb dreams too about baby, some are cool and some are just horrible. I had one the other night that freaked me out... i wont go into it it was yuck

as for baby names! i got a great book out from the library called Beyond Jennifer & Jason, Madison & Montana What To Name Your Baby Now by Linda Rosenkrantz & Pamlea Redmond Satran. It great, It tlaks about Middle names and the importance of the initials of your childs name rah rah rah, its a good read :) interesting!

I know how you must be feeling I find that having my appointments a week a part is too long to wait. I'm so worried because my midwife is going away for 3days leaving the day after I'm due. I really don't want some stranger to be there instead. I've also been having horrible dreams and most of them seem so real I end up waking up with tears running down my cheeks. Josh just says "everything will be fine and if it's not we will get through it" as lovely as that sounds it really just makes me feel like I'm the only one worried!

I had awful vivid dreams all through my pregnancy, including one very real one about a friend getting killed. Luckily, it didn't happen, but I asked my midwife about it, and she said its very common to have those dreams. I was terrified when having ones about baby, because a close firend had a stillborn baby when I was 4 1/2 months pregnant, so that made me xtra paranoid. Luckily, we had the same midwife, so I saw her fortnightly from about 20 weeks and every second day for the last month, she is amazing, I actually cried on my last visit with her!

I had nightmares during my 3rd trimester with Josiah as well. I would wake Nathaniel up for a cuddle, then in the morning, he wouldn't remember! Never impressed me very much.

my partner thinks im being to "anal" about everything. Im being cautious, maybe over cautious but its better safe than sorry. Just with food and stuff, Alot has changed in the 7 years since his youngest was born, bacteria rah rah rah! lol, im a wierdo!

I thought that being pregnant would just be constantly beautiful, which it sometimes is (lol) i didnt take into account the ammount of worrying i would be doing. theres a lil person inside of me! everything i do effects it, thats alot of pressure! lol considering my rockstar lifestyle before finding out i was pregnant lol.

I got grief from everyone about being over cautious as well, especailly since I was pregnant over the festive season and I was very anal about meat being cooked properly. It's your baby and your body, so tell them all to take a flying leap!!!
I was still leading my rock and roll lifestyle while (unbeknown to me) I was pregnant, so I had that extra worry on top of the other worries! I actually asked to see a paediatrician before I left the hospital to check Jake out JUST IN CASE!!! lol! I didn't find out I was preggers untill 10 1/2 weeks, and had had 2 very very big months in that 10 weeks!, so i was terrified!!

I was 20 weeks with Kiya before I found out I was pregnant. In that time, I had lots and lots of fun! I also wrote off a car, and had minor surgery!

Today she is a healthy, normal little girl.

I had 16 weeks in Dunedin leading the most dodgy of student lifestyles - living in a scummy flat, eating reeeeally crap food, working in a bar (so drinking a LOT) and may have also had a night out on some chemical substances. Hrmmmm... found out at 16 weeks and I was terrified!
Didn't help that the guy I thought was Hannah's father was continually guilt tripping me about it and when I went for an appointment with the Doctor he barged in at the end and said really accusingly "You know she's been drinking don't you???"

Anyway... Hannah is fine and dandy!!!

I've also been having horrible dreams I had one where my sister was in an accident and she was lying on the ground in a supermarket dying! it seemed so real and scary I couldn't relax until I rang her early the next morning she's a student in CHCH so her only problem was me waking her up after a big night out!

I got really worried when I found out I was pregnant just because the same night bubs was concieved I had been out for my sisters 21st and had a few drinks. After reading the other posts above I feel silly for worrying!

I have meet one of the possible midwives that might take over while mine is away but I didn't really like her, I'm sure she's lovely I just didn't get a good vibe. My midwife is reasonably young so I feel comfortable talking to her as more of a friend about my worries rather than the other lady who is probably in her late 50's.
