HI all

This is my first baby and I started taking folic acid (80mg)before I conceived. When I went to Doc she prescribed Iodine and suggested taking a pregnancy supplement. In addition the pharmacist suggested taking UltraClean EPA DHA Plus (omega 3). The pregnancy supplement also has iodine (135) and folic acid (250mg) in it.

Does this sound like way too much!! I am taking 1 of each of these a day. What was anyone else taking at 5 weeks? ('')

Thanks

The most important thing is the folic acid which will be 800mcg if you've got it on prescription :) Iodine's a new addition to the preggo pill popping schedule. You don't REALLY need to take anything else, unless you've got low iron

You can save loads of cash(and pill swallowing) by just taking the prescribed stuff!! Maybe you could save the fish oil & pregnancy supplement for later on in your pregnancy, when you're feeling tired - I'm taking my pregnancy multi now at 19 weeks & it gives me a bit of extra energy.

I took folic acid (800mcg) until I was 14 weeks then stopped. Like Serendipity I got it on prescription so it only cost $3 for lots! At about 20 weeks I started to feel run down so midwife suggested I take a pregnancy multi. I use Clinicians PregaVit and it seems to have helped. I find taking a multivit with my lunch a good time. It also depends what your diet is like. My midwife has been a great help with guiding me on what will help for my situation and what isn't really necessary so maybe ask her?

I like taking the multi-vit, it makes me feel like I am doing something to keep my baby healthy ... but that's just a personal thing for me

I took the multi while I was BF AND pregnant cos I figured with all that drain on my body, I should make sure there was enough nutrients left for ME. But since I've stopped BF I've become a lot slacker with taking it.

In my first pregnancy, I took the multi when I had bad morning sickness because I knew my diet was deficient in pretty much everything cos I was barely able to eat. Once I felt better and was eating a healthy balanced diet again, I stopped.
I always took the prescribed stuff for the relevant period though.

Although, question - I keep forgetting to ask my MW - what is the recommended period to take iodine?

Iodine is supposed to be taken all the time when you're pregnant and breastfeeding.
