Topic: PCOS and AF after a baby Posted: 06 December 2010 at 3:48pm |
Does anyone here have PCOS, and have a child? Do you mind sharing what happened with your AF after you had the baby - particularly if you had irregular periods beforehand? I know there's no way of telling what each individual's body will do, but I'm curious. I'd love to have another baby somtime. As I'm breastfeeding now and I had a very irregular cycle before, I don't imagine AF will arrive for quite some time, but would be interested in other's experiences...

I have PCOS aswell and bf ds until he was 12.5months I got af back when he was 18months old and then did a round of clomid and was very lucky to get pregnant by the time he was 19.5months old (after trying for ages to get pregnant with DS...crazy how it all happens!). I have heard of people with PCOS that get af back quite quickly aswell though so I guess ya never know. Good luck with yours and having another bub

I have PCOS, I lost my milk at 4 months, so couldn't breastfeed past then. DS is 18mth and I have had 2 AF since then one at 6mths and one at 13mth, the later went for 2 months before I took Provera to stop it, so for me I think I am more irregular than before!
I've been on Provera since then to try and regulate AF, but some months it works, some months it doesn't. Needless to say I have booked into FA to try for number 2.
Clomid never worked for me.

I have PCOS, was given metformin when first diagnosed 9 years ago, but as babies werent on my agenda back then I didnt take them
Expected to have some sort of delay in falling pregnant when the time come, but it never happened
My cycle was pretty unpredictable before pregnancy, and I only remember it being regular while on the pill however,
I have fallen pregnant within 3 months unassisted both times, my cycle was regular after DD1
I havent had AF since the birth of DD2 as I am breastfeeding fulltime
I imagine I am an exception to the rule , and maybe as I get older it will be harder to concieve, so will try for one more in the near future
Im 33 and weigh 76 kgs (but doing weight watchers to make this less!)
I am considering egg donation after my next child as I am so grateful fertility hasnt been an issue for me

I have PCOS, conceived with Clomiphene and struggled with milk supply while breastfeeding (possible connection there), which led to formula top ups then my son coming to prefer the formula/bottles around the 4 month mark. Was curious to see what would happen with AF as lots of people say that after one baby you become more fertile, but since then I have only had 2 periods and not regularly spaced, so I think that might be an old wives' tale. Heading back to FA this month re #2 , figuring that I might as well bite the bullet and start Clomiphene again as at least you know where you are with that.
