We've been following Gina Fords CLB routines just as a guide. At his stage he should be having 30-45 mins in the morning and then 2 hrs after lunch. He goes down fine at 9.30 then I have to wake him up at 10 or he'll just keep sleeping til he's hungry. But when it comes to his afternooon nap, when I put him down he will just grizzle in his cot for ages. I could go in to re settle him 5 times before he'll fall asleep, which will end up being about 30 mins before he needs to be up again for a feed. He's always been a pretty good sleeper. Through the night from about 14 weeeks. I've tried leaving the morning sleep out but then he trys to stay awake all day. He really still needs 2 sleeps otherwise he doesn't make it til 7am bedtime.

Natalie has always slept longer in the morning, then had a quick 30min nap in the afternoon.....I haven't read the CLB routine, but what happens if you let him have a longer morning sleep? (i.e. from 9.30 till whenever he wakes up)...would he then have a short afternoon nap mid-afternoon?

I'm wondering if he would actually. He rubs his eyes and all that all through eating his lunch so I figure he's tired then, But if he's had a longer sleep in the morrning he may be able wait til later to have his nap. Argh these baby things.

personally I would just let him sleep as long as he wants in the morning, as it does sound like he is tired and then gets overtired in the afternoon (and therefore refuses to sleep). Ella has always slept longer in the morning and at that age would sleep around 2-2.5 hrs in the morning and another 1.5-2 hrs in the afternoon and then still be in bed by 6.30.

Yeah at that age Jake was sleeping 3 hours in the morning, 3 hours in the afternoon and back in bed by 7pm. I used Babywise and it was great.
Maybe watch him and put him to bed as soon as he shows tired signs then see what routine develops out of that?? Once you know then you can be consistent about times. Good luck babies are tricky things!

We have done CLB with both girls and they have always needed a lot more sleep than she recommends. Sophie is only just cutting back on her morning sleep now.
At Ryan's age she would be up at 7am for bottle and breakfast and then dressed and back to bed from 8/8.15ish (she could not last any longer ) and would sleep until 10. Then up and out and about until 12.30/1 ish and back to bed from 1 - 3pm. It is only in the last 2 weeks that we have found that she needs 30-45 mins in the morning or it spoils the lunch time sleep (and makes the afternoon and evening nasty!!) She is still in bed (and usually asleep by 7).
Maybe try a bit more sleep in the morning - sleep begets sleep!

Yeah Jake was up at 7am and I'd stretch it out as long as I could but by 8.30-9 he was back in bed. He'd sleep til 12 then up and back to bed at about 2, nap til 5 then back in bed by 7 and sleep right through til 7am. He was in this approx routine til about 14 months when he dropped to one nap a day.

He's alright in the morning he doesn't seem tired til about bang on 9.30. I left him to sleep today til 10.30, (coz I needed to go out and get back before he needed lunch) but we got to about 1.30 and he was really grizzly and he was out like a light. and is still asleep now at 3.30. It might have helped that I gave him a bottle before he went down, which he'd normally have when at 2.30 after a sleep.

Jake always slept longer in the mornings at that age too .... I gave up on the CLB routines as he needed more sleep than she recommended (and slept all night fine) ... so I just let him have a longer morning nap and a short mid-arvo one. Eventually when he went to one nap which moved later and later til it was after lunch at her recommended time. (but that took til he was well over 12 months).

yep i'm gonna have to agree... a half hour sleep in the morning is not enough. i find even now at almost 14 months that if eden is overtired she wont go to sleep so that is prob why he is not sleeping in the afternoon. i think its good to have set times for babies to go to sleep but generally they sleep for as long as they need (unless of course an annoying older sibling wakes them).

I have always let Sam sleep for as long as he needed to (within reason of course) but if I woke him after half an hour MAN he would be sh*tty! At that age I remember him going down about 9:30AM and waking at about lunch time, and then having a shorter sleep in the afternoon. He doesn't sleep at all during the day now but I wish he would!

Same here Renee
If i let Kylah sleep half and hour and then woke her man id be in for a bad day!
Kylah was sleeping 9 - 11.30am and then 2 - 3.30pm and back in bad for the night at 6.30-7pm at 9/10mnths..
6.30 is still her bedtime now at 20 months, but just one 11-2pm sleep. She dropped at about 13 months to one sleep.
