Topic: Midwife in Auckland Posted: 14 September 2007 at 4:32pm |
Hi,
Today I found out I was pregnant.Am so excited!!It's our first.
My doctor told me that I need to find a midwife and he gave me a list of people to contact. But I'd really prefer a personal recommendation. As we are new to Auckland and dont know many people, dont really have anyone to ask.
So if anyone could recommenda midwife in the Mt Eden area,it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Congrats on your news Lou1972!
Im on the shore so cant help you with Mt Eden sorry.
I felt the same when I first got pregnant. I met two before choosing one so dont be afraid to meet with a mw to see if you like her. If not move on to the next one.
I would recommend trying to find one sooner rather than later as they can get booked up if you leave it too long.
Good luck

Hi Lou
I would contact the Midwives Collective on Marsden Ave, there are about 6 really good midwives that work out of there, and it will be a matter of who is booked / available around your dates. They all have a good philosophy / style, so you should find someone there that you like.
The other name I can suggest (I havent used her, but know lots of people who have and LOVE her) is Lee Moeselen, she is based in Epsom, but is very very good apaprently.
Congrats - its an exciting time!

Thanks Margo - I can never remember whether there is that extra "e" in there or not! I have heard really good things about her - I know her (through a family member) on a personal level, so wouldnt feel comfortable using her, but everyone I know that has used her just RAVES about her!

Hi Lou1972
Congratulations!!!
Sue Rowe in Mt Eden is lovely, she is my MW.. She has been a MW for 27 years and has only in the last 6 months gone as an independant MW. She talks 100miles an hour and tends to answer all your questions before you get a chance to ask.....

Not in Mt Eden but close(ish) by in Parnell, Jan Clifton and Toni Vail. I have Toni, but know loads who have used Jan and she's lovely too... they are both very experienced and really great to deal with, very straightforward, no fussing which I like.

Lee moselen was a terrible midwife for me. As soon as i'd received my epidural, she shoved syntocin into me for no clinical reason other than to speed things along. She left the room for 30m when it was time for me to push out my baby. I found out later, she had another lady in labour at the same time as me and i was her 3rd and the other lady her 4th delivery in 24hours. She did not call in any back up at all. She was rude and grumpy the whole time. Be warned.

Jane - what a shame that you didnt have a good experience with Lee. I guess its just one of those things that happens to midwives sometimes, but it sounds like she could have handled it better.

Hi Lou
Congrats!!
I spent a lot of time looking for a midwife just recently left lots of messages and got no call backs apart from my now midwife.
Gaylene Bogle - I have only seen her once but she is really nice her ctc details are: 630 2144 or 021887197 she is based in Sandringham so close to Mt Eden.
Don't know if you have looked Mama Maternity up Mama Maternity but they gave me a list of midwives in the area - that is where I started I was the same wanted recommendations.
Good Luck hope you find someone soon

Hi
I had Gaylene with my 3rd child and she is my current midwife with my fourth. She is wonderful and I wouldn't have anyone else as my midwife!! You wouldn't be disappointed!!!
Give her a call :)
