So we are moving to a slightly different area, currently in Mt Wellington, and we are moving to Pukekohe, I like my midwife enough to want to stay with her expecially for the birth. Im booked in at Auckland, and a high possibility of a c-sec due to my last one.

My question is can i still have my midwife till the birth and then have another for after or..... i really dont know... can anyone please help.

Manda - we hopefully will be in the same position moving soon (if we sell) and have already talked to my midwife about it. She has offered up a couple of options for us:

Once we move she will help us find a new midwife. or
We can keep her for the birth and she will find someone else for after care. or
We can keep seeing her and she has offered after care where she will come out to me then the next appt I come in to see her and we alternate till the end of after care.

We are going (at this stage) for the last option.

A friend of my sisters changed her midwife for aftercare a few years ago - she wasn't happy with the care during birth and ended up with a specialist so then changed to another midwife.

Hope this helps..

I moved when I was pregnant with DD1, and the problem was that it also involved being under a different DHB in our new area, and thus my original midwife wouldn't have had hospital access come time to birth. I changed midwives and as it turns out my second one was even more fabulous, so was quite happy with that - your best option is to give your midwife a call and discuss it as she should know what to do.

I agree discuss it with your MW.
With DS we moved, and the MW for the birth got a different MW for the aftercare.
The one I've got now, we were supposed to move closer to her then that fell through but she's still happy to keep going with me even though I'm at the border of where she covers.
