We'll be going back home to Germany for Christmas. This time little 1year old Alani will be there too. We had her on a 3 hr flight to Rarotonga when she was 8 months old which was a nightmare on the way over and ok on the way back.
I would be thankful for any tips on how to survive this huge trip.

Don't have any tips but we're flying to Ireland with 2 X 11month olds for Christmas as well. So will be keeping an eye on this thread.

So far I've been told:
Lots of Toys. (only bring one out at a time)
Pack your own food

I don't know what airline you're flying with but our second leg is with Lufthansa and from previous experience I know they're not very 'giving' with water so I intend on buying bottles in duty free and bringing them on board with me.

goodluck hun...............i was gonna take my 1 yr old to Greece and decided at the last minute not to and glad i didnt as he wouldnt have survived as he is too much of a handful.......on the other note i would reccommend flying emirates..............there was babies on there and the staff are awesome...one couple had flown everywhere with there midget.........they put the kids in car seat and then it gets strapped to seat............of course there are soooooo many people that wanna play with the baby when its awake (plus one that you just wanna slap) so they will be well entertained if you get tired ...the couple said the horrible part was when baby got to sleep then they had to disembark for an hour and they couldnt stay on so baby got restless again........like i said HIGHLY reccommend emirates..been on every flight and there not as helpful as them...they do everything to help even bring out toys and give you a big pack of baby stuff eg nappies etc.

We did take some toys onto the airplaine when we travelled with our 1 1/2 year old. But when she was tired she would throw away the toy very quickly. And when they are content, anything could be a toy on the airplane, even just a platic/paper bag. So if you already have a lot of stuff with you, don't worry if you have no space for toys.

It is an challenge but you will make it.

When we flew with Nyah to Fiji, we made sure she had her own carry on luggage and took Dolly with us, she was pretty good both trips. I also agree about taking your own food and drink.

Also make sure you get her up when the aisles are free and let her wander up and down.... you'll find people will stop her and say hello etc.

If you can get an Ergo or sling so you can put her in that when you are waiting to board or in the departure lounges etc. They are also good for the plane if you need to settle her while you're flying.

Have a great trip.

I'm not the voice of experience because the longest flights we've been on is only 1hour but what about taking your laptop or a portable DVD player and some kiddies programmes on DVD as an extra form of entertainment.

hehe! I know we'll be flying at the right time to have Madagascar 2 to watch on the flights.

*cough* for the girls honestly! *cough*

Also I'm gonna buy some more of the travel containers for formula so I don't have to lug a tin around and some of those disposable bibs to as I've got messy eaters!
