Hi all, I am due with my 2nd next month and am still tossing up about where to go for post-natal care. I am planning on birthing at CWH, and then transferring.
Darfield hospital would be the most logical, as I only live 10 mins away, but I am just a bit worried about it not being a proper maternity hospital, so there won't be an oncall midwife, to have with latching etc.
Lincoln also sounds good, but I dont like the idea of having a shared room.
I have just been looking into burwood, and I'm liking the sound of that. But the only thing is the travel time for DH and son to come visit! It would be much easier for my transfer though...
Can you let me know your experiences of these hospitals if anyone has been to them?
Also what the visting hours, meals, are like? Which has shared rooms, and do any have ensuites or t.vs in rooms (I've gotta have something to do while bubba is asleep lol!)
Any info would be muchly appreicated :)

I transferred to Burwood and loved it there. I was lucky to get the last single room and it was lovely. The MW's there are amazing and the help with breastfeeding is awesome. DD had tongue tie so we needed plenty of help despite her being my 2nd. It is really relaxed there and on one night one of the nurse aids made a lovely hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows.
Meals are good, not great but eatable. No TV's in the rooms but there is a lounge you can go to at any time and change the channels. Also no Ensuites in the single rooms, but there are 4 toilet/showers bathrooms close by.
I think the Burwood visiting hours are 10am to 8pm and partners can come and go until 10pm for memory.
I recommend Burwood, I enjoyed my stay there

I didn't have a shared room at Lincoln. I think that only happens if it's busy. There must have been somewhere between 5-7 of us there one night I was in and we each had our own room. There are several single rooms. No ensuites, just some shared shower/toilet rooms and a separate toilet (and maybe separate shower?). There was a lounge, but I didn't get out of my room much. Meals were good, healthy food. They also have a kitchen, but pretty standard Milo, tea, hot water dispenser, etc. The only thing about Lincoln that kind of made me go  was the birthing room. It's pretty close to the other rooms and the pipes shake and rattle when the pool is being filled.

I have had a friend that has had a bad experience at Burwood, they were super busy but only had one midwife on over night and she was in a shared room and her curtained off area was only like 2m x 2m if that she said once one baby would cry all the others would start up! Plus no TVs and I know how ya feel about that alot of people tell me thats not the be all and end all but as you said what are you meant to do lol Im due in April so hopefully going to be transferred to St Georges as they are re-opening in Feb!

Apparently St Georges are opening up some post natal rooms very soon (different building though)

Where is St Georges?
I def agree with the tv, the first night I was in hospital with DS, even tho I was totally exhausted I couldn't sleep but also didn't have enough concentration to read so tv was a sanity saver! I guess you could take a laptop in if you had one and watch dvds instead of the infomercials on the tv tho....

Ohh I hope you can go to St Georges! That was my preference but obviously couldnt due to no mat word

There is also Rangiora - they have plenty of helpful staff, and you also get your own room. I believe it has recently been done up too.
